Hi guys / gals.
Have been happily playing Dvd's and cd's on my Patriot 2980 for over a year.
However, I now have problems with DVD's and cd's. Both 'play', but the sound is distorted and slower on both, and the picture is slow on DVD's.
I have tested the DVD burner on another pc and it runs fine.
I have tried a couple of different software applications on my pc , and all have the same results.
The last thing I did on the pc was to burn 3 x cd's , which was a system backup.
Im now told that Power DVD may be linked to them all , so may try re-installing it ?

Any further ideas ? Thanks in advance

Thanks Philraz. I checked that and the settings were correct.

Ihave now alsore-installed my cd drive , but still get sound distortion and slow picture quality.
I have tried running a video clip from my hard disk , and this plays on Power dvd okay . Which suggests the software is okay ?
Maybe now Im looking at a cable issue ?

Any help gratefully received.

The DVD drive is internal.

There is a ribbon cable and a power lead going into it.

I was going to uninstall Power dvd , but as it plays video footage on my hard disk okay does that mean that Power dvd is okay ?
May try re-installing it anyway.

Will also try a ribbon cable - cheers.

Will post my results.

Having uninstalled Power DVD I find that Windows Media player also plays the DVDS on my DVD player very slowly and the sound breaks up. SO it would appear not to be a application software issue. I will check the cables next methinks.

Woops - Ive uninstalled Power DVD. Now where can I install back on for free ? Can comebody please recommend a website. Thanks.

Mnaged to get version 4 of Power DVD , so will try and install this meantime.

I have now tried another ribbon cable , and the fault still exists.

Can anybody please help me with this issue. ie slow playing on DVD player on my pc , causing slow picture and sound distortion.

Can it be a problem with anything in the Registry ? If so , can anybody recommend a good free Registry clean up software package ?

Thanks in advance.

Ive fixed it .
Well, to be fair Philraz gave me the answer, but I didnt check the secondary port . I spotted that DMA was off when running the Nero device checking tool.
My dvd drive was running at 1.3 speed. Now working okay.

Thanks guys for the help

Aminutall, I have the exact same problems that you are having, slow burning and ripping and also poor picture and sound distorting, so i am going to try and follow the steps that philraz has recommended and hopefully they will do the trick.
