Hi all. I'm brand new to this forum. I've been using DVDShrink for a couple of years now and have never had a single problem. I have version 3.2.0.15. When choosing 'Backup!' and looking at the Quality Settings, I have always had "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality" checked off. The other day, I accidentally checked off the "Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation:". When I did that, the "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality" option grayed out. I tried putting in a different movie and opened that disc and checked on the settings again. Now both the "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality" AND the "Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation:" options are grayed out. What the heck? I've never had any problems at all. I even tried uninstalling DVDShrink and installing it again, but both of these options are still grayed out. Any suggestions? When I had the "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality" setting ONLY checked off, the quality has been beautiful and the length of time it takes DVDShrink to do it's thing has been minimal. Help!

Make sure you have these two settings checked when backing up a DVD and compression is applied (not at 100%):

1)Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality
2)Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation

If you're reauthoring the DVD or backing up the whole movie, and the compression level is at 100%, the "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality" and the "Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation" settings will be grayed out because no compression is needed (this is normal when no compression is needed to fit the backup on a single layer dvd)).

Use these setting when compression is applied:
rule-of-thumb guide for the AEC setting on various compression levels:

90-99.9% - Max Sharp
80-90% - Default Sharp
65-80% - Smooth
<65% - Max Smooth

Ooh, good tip! I may have to try out your suggestion.

But otherwise, yes, unless you need compression these two options WILL be grayed out. If compression is needed both options will be available.

The disc you put it in, was it an original or one of your backup? Have you tried reinstalling Shrink?
