This is my first post, but I have read the first 10 pages in this forum to try finding my specific problem. I haven't found it.. The problem is as follows;

I buy TDK DVD+R discs at Costco by the 100. For the past 6 months or so I have burned about 400 discs with about a 95% success rate. In the last couple of batches I have bought, about 40% of disc writes fail.

According to my lof, my discs aren't TDK, but are CMC MAG which you guys say are no good. I have just ordered aspindle of Taiyo Yuden DVD+R.

My firmware on my writer is current.

The really strange thing about my failures is that it takes about 5 minutes before it gives the fail error, and every disc has a 1/2 inch ring of written material which is unreadable.

Could you guys please look at my log and tell me anything that strikes you as wrong?

Apart from the crappy discs you are using and burning too fast at 8x, slow to 4X I cannot see a lot wrong with your log. Try using good quality media as you now intend to do and slow your burn. Good luck.

You could also update your Nero to this version

I think I found the problem.

I upgraded Nero from 6.6.0.16 to 6.6.0.18 and suddenly I have burned about a dozen successful DVDs even while using my CMC MAG media at 8X speed.

@dvdsgarce
I know that no one wants to hear they wasted money on crappy media, and they have to throw away more than 50 discs out of the nice coloured spindle of 100 that they just bought. You can choose to follow advice, or not.
I starting burning somwhere at the end of December. I had no clue whatsowever about DVD media, burnrers...So, I bought a nice 50 piece spindle of Imation DVDs( made by CMC Mag). I had a couple of successful( and by that I mean the burn completed) burns. Then I kept getting these fails. This is how I came across AD, and found out about importance of quality media.
The other day I wanted to transfer my 3 months old discs that I butned on Imation, about 10 of them. With 3 of them I had no sound( it was mostly like a static noise), 3 I could not even copy them to my HDD, 2 of them they were skipping and freezing so I didn't bother even trying to copy them. Two discs were still good.
All of those discs initially, after the burn, played with absolutely no problem, they just didn't last in the very short time, about 3 months.
So, you can do what you want...:~)

This statement bewilders me, I thought you were POINTED in this direction in the previous post.

As cyprusrom said, continue to use CMC Mags and you'll be back here with failed burns.
Also good to see you continue to burn at 8x after being advised to slow to 4X, obviously you know a little more than we do so I cant see the point in you even asking for help.

I noted all the advice given, but have you never heard of troubleshooting one step at a time to track down and verify exactly what the problem is? I fully intend implementing all advice given here (quality media (already bought but hasn't arrived yet), slower burn speed, upgrade Nero,).

I merely implement one change at a time and then burn a few to see results of that single change. I'm sure the shotgun approach works well, but it doesn't single out the root cause of problems.

I appreciate the help. Thank you.
