I am having a problem and I am hoping someone could help me. I am using dvd shrink to download and dvd decrypter to burn. Everything seems ok when I am burning, but after the process is complete I take the dvd to test it in my Stand Alone and it reads no disc.
I have a JVC multi-region dvd player. It happened to at least 5 out of my 6 burns. Can anyone explain this to me???
I am using Nexxtek 8x dvd+R media and also using a no name dvd+r 8x.
I recently like one week ago bought a brand new Plextor dvd burner, so I dont understand what the deal is.
Can someone please reply???

It could be that your stand alone player doesnt accept the DVD+R format, that being the case I would suggest you booktype your DVD+R discs to DVD-ROM.
Heres a guide to get you on your way

Sounds more like your jvc player doesn't like that crap media.

What's the model# of that plextor drive?

How fast did you burn them?
What are the MID codes on those blank +8x discs?

It may need a firmware update? What is the firmware version on that plextor drive?

The plextor drives can booktype using a utility called plextools.Only the plus format can be booktyped.
Did you booktype those plus format media?

Plextor burners should be able to burn anything. It's those stand alone players that will pick apart the backups when they don't like them. No disc errors on stand alone players usually mean crappy media/wrong format/or low quality burner-which that should be ruled out because plextors are among the best quality drives out there.

The model number of my plextor burner is PX740A.
I have been burning them at maximum speed, never had a problem before till now.

As far as MID codes...what the heck is that?

And firmware?..Not sure either.
Sorry so dumb at this, just need a little guidance...I mean I have burned over 200 movies and always had little problems here and there, but now the S**T has hit the fan so to say or I have had it which ever comes first...LOL

HP/Nexxtek/store brand named like staples/office max/compusa/TDK/Memosux/and generic-no name brand media:
AVOID like the PLAGUE!

It's bad enough trying to get it to burn without a burn error. The picky stand alone players will pick apart that low quality media by giving you playback issues.

Don't trash them just yet. Slow down the burn speed, and reduce the backup target to around 4300 mbs.

Make sure you burner can play those backups before you consider them coasters. Sounds like your JVC is a picky player. Give it some quality media and see how it reacts to them.

Bestbuy has verbatim on sale this week for $14.99 a 50 pk spindle. We've got to rule out media quality as being the culprit. Here's some other things to do:

1)Try some quality media.Since plus is giving no disc errors, try the dash.

2)Download plextools to set the booktype to dvd-rom on those plus format discs.

3) Keep compression to a minimum/main movie only

4) Reduce the backup target to 4300 mbs, until you get quality media. Then raise it to 4360 mbs.

The Plextor PX- 740A is a rebadged benq 1640. Similar drive, different chip setting. These drives can booktype to take care of those no disc errors.

Has that JVC player played any dvd backups on it before? From one of your older burners/or a friends burner?

Oh yeah I have played many back-up dvd's on there, but only recently have I gotten a lot of back up dvds with spits and digital farts and now this.
I used about 100 NexxTek and all the rest TDK and just recently this no name brand.
I am gonna try what you said tonight. I really, really appreciate you taking the time to work with me and I will definately let you know tomorrow whats going on...
I am gonna go to Best Buy and grab those dvd's.
Thanks again.
Lets keep our fingers crossed....LOL

When you listed those brands of media you use,I just cringed. That's always the first thing to rule out when issues occur.

Another note, after time-stand alone players gradually lose their readability of backups. When mine started losing it,it started with the freezing.Testing older backups in it,it still froze. I confirmed those backups using the pc burner to play it,and it played perfect using windvd. Just something to keep an eye on.

Test a few of those backups using the px-740 to play them.As long as that drive plays it's own backups, then it is a successful backup copy.
