ok i have a collection of divx files i want to burn as data, the collection was meant to fit on one dvd perfect but when i go to burn them with nero 7 on these office depot dvd-r's (they are ritek something) i get message "this compilation contains to much data to fit on thge disc.....required capacity - 514:56:09 4,526 mb total capacity on disc - 510:46:46 4,489 mb click ok to try overburn writing" when i click ok it fails imediatly, so i went out and bought some sony dvd+r's made in japan and when i get the same message i click ok to overburn but then it fails at the very end...should it be possible to burn this? here is my log from the sony attempt...any help appreciated.

thread teleported to Nero forum..
Quote: Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B>Version: DG01
- i haven't come across this model before i don't think, yesterday i came across a thread with a GWA-4164B, same problem, couldn't verify the firmware, and due to the 'GWA' part of the name it's an OEM drive. anyway, i can see from the logs that your firmware can recognise the discs you're using anyway..
Quote: Physical memory : 894MB (915888kB)

- ouch, 18MB free memory, that's gonna hurt :)
you need to make sure to close down more programs prior to ALL burning to ensure sufficient free memory
Quote: Last possible write address on media: 2355199 (523:22.49, 4599MB), real: 4482MB

Write in overburning mode: YES (enabled: CD DVD)
- over the years i've done a fair few overburned CD's but (certainly where dvd movies are concerned) with DVD's i'd warn against it, as the dye can be inconsistent near outer edges of discs. Now decent media (not saying yours aren't, i'm just not a Sony or Ritek, or even Yuden000 disc expert) should have the dye consistently at the outer edges of discs however due to the never ending problems i see with dvd burning (99.9% are movie burn problems admittedly) i would strongly advise against overburning any DVD whether data or movies. Anyone else can happily disagree with me but i wouldn't risk data overburnt on a DVD.
Quote: Not enough free discspace.
- self explanatory
Quote: Invalid block address
- ouch, i get this on one of my burners when i try to do 8x on certain discs, but i have 100% flawless burns on that same burner with same discs at 4x. lower the speed to 4x, maybe even 8x

- CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero, certainly for dvd movie burning anyway), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper which you can apparently get from here - http://www.downloadjunction.com/product/store/15199

1. I don't recommend overburning for anything you really want to keep.
2. If you are going to overburn, slow the burning speed down. 12x in my opinion is too fast to overburn. Bring it down to 4x.
3. You can only overburn so far and this vary's by media. However I don't see why the TY's wouldn't be able to be overburned if you are staying below 4600.
Here is an example to show what creaky was saying about the outer edge:
