Hello,
I want to use DVDfab Decrypter for the movei Babe. I used the manual which I found on http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20DVDFABDecrypter,S...
When the decryption is succesfully finished I have a file on my HD of 3,63 GB.
When I want to use DVD Shrink and re-authoring the titles 1 file is 3,63 GB big and it lasts 0:10 minutes.
Shrink gives the following error:
DVDShrink cannot retain menu functionality when you re-author a menu. Instead, all buttons will be removed and the menu will be converted into a regular video clip.
If you wish to preserve the original menu functionality you should backup the DVD in Full Disc Mode.
Press ok etc etc.
-----
What am I doing wrong here.
Greetings,
Joop.

Sounds like your dragging over the menu and not the movie. Are you dragging over the file listed under main movie?

Sounds like you missed something or the guide wasn't comprehensive enough for you. First of all, you don't need Shrink when the files are less than 4.37GB. Just go ahead and burn the decrypted files. Secondly, from your description, you're using Re-author in DVD Shrink. In that evironment, menus don't work and are made into a clip. That's the way the app works. The movie would play, just no menu function. Re-author is for editing of movies that need transcoding (shrunk to fit the target media). You can use Shrink in Full Disc mode and retain menus. You can even edit in the Full Disc mode using Still Image in the compression settings to edit by selecting Still Image for the file one wants to delete. But, as I said, with files smaller than 4.37GB, just go ahead and burn.

I burned the files with Nero but the DVD doesn't start playing in my dvd-player. So something must have gone with decrypting.
I only don't know what.

I suspect you're probably right. With that I would suggest DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD running in the background for HD files and just AnyDVD when you want to decrypt on the fly.
Go to http://www.slysoft.com/ and download the trials for AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2. The trial is good for about 3 weeks. Just read the short info on AnyDVD to see how it works and then try the backup and see what happens. The file you had appears a bit "light" for a full length DVD.

With AnyDVD it didn't work either. I receive a read error. And this is for both Babe 1 and Babe 2. Maybe it is something on the dvd's. I don't know.
I could do another dvd (Garfield) and there was no problem.

Is the disk you're trying to back up in decent condition? It shouldn't be seriously scratched or have surface flaws (preferably clean and shiny)? Do a read scan of the disk and see if there is a problem. Sometimes there are problems with the press that prevent recording though it will play. There shouldn't be anything different with Babe than other DVDs. Since you're able to do other DVDs and this one is a problem, I'm starting to believe it may be the disc itself. If possible, the easy way out is to try another copy and see if you get the same problem. I've encountered similar problems and getting a good copy solved the problem.

Hello,
Thanks for the suggestions. I shall try again today. The reason why I tried to use DVDFabDecryptor or Any DVD is because in Shrink I receive a copy protection error message and can't continue. And in AnyDVD I receive a read error.
Thanks again,
Joop.

Hello,
Quote: If you're talking about Babe the movie about the pig, if I reacall it will fit on a DVD-5. I know I backed up a lot of the kids older dvd's over the holidays and I think I just used Shrink, opened the disc, than process it. Finshed in 10 minutes.
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20Decrypter&Shrink.pdf
Just skip steps 4-7.
If I'm wrong and it is a DVD-9, than just use DvdDecryptor in file mode and than Shrink. That's the most I would of done.
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20Decrypter&Shrink.pdf
A few minutes after I started the decruption the following error occurred (I saw this one yesterday too).
Brute force cracking failed
Device: [3:0:0] Sony DVD RW DRU-710A BY 03 (H:) (ATA)
File name VTS_02_1.VOB
Reason: there were no volnerable tools.
How do I proceed?

First of all remember this in a big way: DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer supported and the portion of the software that breaks decryption and copyright protections are getting more obsolete each day. Shrink lost it's support first, but the author always pointed out to use DVD Decrypter if a problem arose with encryption. You can't depend on DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter as your main decryption software.
Second, AnyDVD is one of the best decryption tools, though not infallible. When using DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD, CSS cracking should be off, SPTI on, and Checking Structure off. As I mentioned, DVD Decrypter is obsolete, though still a useful tool when used properly.
At this juncture, It appears you're having problems with compliance or there's a flaw in the DVD itself. If you got a complete rip with DVDFabDecrypter, then the files should have been able to be processed by DVD Shrink, though it isn't necessary to shrink the files to fit the target media. The quick analysis in Shrink is a good test for file compliance. When you opened the files in DVD Shrink, did Shrink do the quick analysis? DVD Shrink has the ability to correct file structure to some degree. I've used it as a utility for that purpose in the past. FixVTS is an easy tool that corrects problems. I'd use that one since the decryption pointed to a VOB file.

Volnerable? Are you sure about that word?
You shouldn't have been relying on DVD Decrypter, it's obsolete as far as decryption by itself. It's good for old movies before it lost support, but the date eludes me. I was using AnyDVD with it before it lost support. Slysoft was and is doing a better job of staying updated. Does using AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter encounter the same error as with DVD Decrypter alone?
I would proceed by first doing a read scan of the source DVD, just to make sure it isn't flawed. Nero has CD-DVD Speed which has that particular test. If you don't have Nero or a utility that does the read scan, you can download the free DVDInfoPro, http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ , and use the scan utility in it.
If the scan is clear, use FixVTS (freeware) to process the files you got using DVDFabDecrypter (if they were a full version of the movie). Use a DVD player app to check the files to make sure they're complete. Just uncheck the boxes in the FixVTS window, drag the first VOB file to FixVTS and select Full Disc to process the files. You end up with a new Video_TS folder and a backup of the original. Save your original which is the backup and burn the new Video_TS folder. Hopefully it will play. If not send the disc to me and I'll see what the problem is.
Note: Though I'm not familiar with how good it works, AnyDVD now includes a ripper which incorporates FixVTS. Ideally when a file is ripped with the AnyDVD ripper, it ends up being DVD compliant. This was developed due to new copyright protection on factory DVDs that caused recording software to read the files as non-compliant.

Any time I got that error with DVD Decrypter, I just clicked ok, continue, or whatever(don't really remember what the options are, I changed to DVDFab for a while). But just click okay and the process will continue.

DVD Decrypter should no longer be used alone as the main decryption tool, unless one is just doing movies from back in O5 and earlier. No more support. It is still a handy utility and can be used with PgcEdit for PSL2 files. When using DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD, CSS cracking should be turned off to avoid unnecessary and invalid warnings from Decrypter. As I mentioned, checking for structure off and SPTI on as well. Those are recent recommended settings from Slysoft, not just an invention of mine.

@brobear,
Yes, I know DVD Decrypter has no support anymore. And I wasn't saying in my replay "go ahead, keep on using it":~)(as you can see I mentioned that I swithced to DVDFab) However, it will still do some of the new titles also, from 2006(I did The 40 Y.O Virgin, Corpse Bride, Red Eye, and I am sure I did more just using DVD Decrypter alone, but I can't recall exactly when I switched to DVD Fab). And I just used only DVD Decrypter "Movie Only".
I am just saying that I encountered that error in decrypter a few times, and all I did is click okay and let the decryption continue.
If one wants to trial and error, can keep on using DVD Decrypter alone. Otherwise, I would switch to more up to date decrypters.

There we agree, that's all I was suggesting. You're right, DVDD will do some of the new titles, but not all. It depends on the copyright protection used. Sony, Disney, and Columbia are among the major players using the new Arccoss protection that causes most of the problems. Often if a person does movie only, they can bypass the protection and record just the movie.
I'm starting to suspect eagleye has other problems though.

After changing these settings in my program I could make a backup of Babe2 (1998). Everything went well.
Babe 1 (1995) still doesn't work.
Brobear, is your suggestion to use only AnyDVD (in conjunction with CloneDVD?).
Thanks for your suggestions.

Joop.

Since some of my software has to have files from the HD, I tend to rip them all there. Rarely do I do a transcoding on the fly. It only takes about an hour longer to do the job with a true encoder. That's beside the point. I suggest the AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter for tasks and then open the source files from the hard drive. That also allows you to check your source files for errors if something goes wrong.
As for AnyDVD with CloneDVD 2, it works good and is simple to operate; so easy for the beginner. AnyDVD works with all the software I've tried it with. So you have a lot of options there. You can use "whatever" as long as you're happy with the output quality of your video. The method I suggested (AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter) has your source cleaned up and ready to work with any encoder or transcoder app that can open files from the hard drive. Very few can't and all the major ones I've worked with do. The old XCopy had a flaw where it couldn't, though the app was supposed to. Since that was corrected, I've not run across a program that won't access a source on the HDD.
Glad you got one of the DVDs backed up. Did you do a read scan of the one that didn't to see if there are problems with its condition? You may need another copy, if doing a backup is a necessity. Besides the read scan, answer these questions for me. What physical condition is the disk in? Does it have scratches and how badly is the surface scratched up? Are the scratches minor or are some of them serious? Are the scratches all over the playing surface of the disc? Is there any discoloration of the playing surface? Ideally the playing surface is supposed to be clean and shiny with no scratching (minor scratches seem to happen anyway as long as it doesn't get too bad (we're in the real world after all and most of those scratched up video rentals play). If you're into a condition situation, sometimes you can repair the disc with a repair tool or use rescue software.
Your next step should be doing the read scan and then proceed.

It just started doign this the last two days I have been using it and I have had it about a half a month. Any help to speed up the process would be appreciated.

Try defraging the HDD that u are ripped the movie to, i have heard of dvdFab not working correctly when the HDD is badly fragmented.
Or
U can check ur DMA modes to see if they are still on heres how
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
Check this first and if they are on them do the defrag.
