Ok, so Ive browsed around on here for awhile, and I cant find help with this anywhere. For some reason, Nero takes like 2 1/2 hours to burn a DVD. Im trying to burn avi. files to DVD, is there anything I can do to speed up the process, because this whole thing of waiting like 2+ hours for a dvd to burn is ridculous, and the fact that when Im burning the DVD is slows my computer down horribly, any help would be greatley appreciated.

Its NOT unusual for the complete process to take that amount of time, my comp does it in the same time.

When you are burning do NOT multitask, turn off ALL unnecessary programs INCLUDING spyware.

well lets see, what are your pc stats for starters and then what encoder do you use?

Your questions a bit vague. Are you trying to burn them so you can watch them in a standalone dvd player or just want them on a dvd disc as storage!

If you want the 1st option they need to be converted to an mpeg2 format before Nero will recognise them as being in the right format to burn to disc.

You coud try getting a dedicated encoder like CCE or vso DivX to dvd. These apps can take a 700meg AVI and encode them to mpeg2 in about an hour. From there it may take anywhere from 10 to 25 to burn the inital dvd and every other copy 9 mins with your version of Nero.

But this all hinges on what your pc stats are.If you have a fast machine the times maybe reduced but if your machine is under resourced then it may take longer than what i have suggested.

If you want the 2nd option just select the data option when burning onto dvd and then add your files and you should be away and done in a minimal amount of time

I have a new Dell Inspiron 1300 notebook, like 512 RAM, yadda yadda yadda, 16x DVD-RW drive. The way I had been burning them before Nero was having me make a title menu and all this other crap, I dont need any of that, I just want the file on dvd so I can watch it on my regular dvd player, i just downloaded a AVI to dvd converter, so maybe, hopefully this will work, any other suggestions in the mean time are appreciated.

To transcode any 700MB AVI into DVD and then burn into a blank disc/media can take roughly from 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hrs to successfully completed the job. This is usual and it is normal. I've used Nero Vision 4 to transcode AVI into DVD a lot in the past and once in a while and I used "High Quality + Progressive + 2 Pass VBR", it can take anywhere from 2 hrs - 3 hrs (depends on how big is the movie file) just for the transcoding and encoding job.

If you want it fast, then "don't" set anything at Nero Vision's setting at all, just leave everything on "default or standard" and it will be a little faster like 1 hr and 40 mins - 2 hrs. However, it will downdgrade/effect the quality though. Furthermore, make sure you don't "multi-tasks" or having other unnecessary programs running in the background.

I usually performed a "scan disk/disk clean up" and "defrag" my hard drive in prior to proceed with my project. Other things to look out for is to "disconnect" from the net, kill/shutdown all Anti-Virus programs, kill Windows Firewall (if you have one), don't touch your PC/Computer at all while Nero Vision is progressing.

Good luck!!

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

try this and see how you go:

should convert your AVI to dvd quicker and then Nero will burn it to disc unless of course you use the burning app that comes with this program
