Hey there.
I am currently trying to make a backup copy of Chicken Little.
This is not going well... I started out using CloneDVD2 version 2.8.5.1 (AnyDVD vers. 5.3.2.1 running in background) but apparently the movie is too long. Soo, then I try to shrink it with DVD Shrink version 3.2.0.15 (latest?) and it does a good job until it gets to the analysis 18%, then it gives a... data error:(cyclic redundancy check). I am not sure what else a guy can do. Any ideas?

Thanks, Chad

Your versions of clonedvd2 and AnyDVD are old, update them both and try again.

trick06 hi :)

a 'CRC' error is usually associated with.
1. a dirty disc (finger prints etc) give it a good clean
2. a scratched disc
3. a bad disc from the manufactuer (bad press) return to supplier for a new one
4. a poor quality disc (if it's a copy, it could be copied on bad media)

seeing as it gets to 18% it would suggest 1 off the first 3 , a poor quality disc usually has the errors near the outer edge where the dye is uneven, or even missing completely, unless of course it is a poor quality disc thats a few mths old, and dye rot has set in

Not when it comes to the newer encryptions. I tried chicken little on my backup athlon 3000+ pc. After I dragged main movie over and backed up,DVD Shrink told me 20+ hours and then over 200+ hours to finish. It then gave me that CRC error.

I then backed it up using my main pc,that has AnyDVD 5.9.4.1 and had no trouble after that.

I usually get that crc error during the initial, quick analysis in DVD Shrink. This time,I got that error after I clicked backup.

BTW: On some of those problematic encryptions, you may even get an Out of Memory error too! Those newer encryptions does some weird stuff to un-updated DVD Shrink.

Dvd shrink 3.2.?.? is the latest version. No updates in well over a year and a half, but still a great program when you have the help of AnyDVD running in the background.

Make sure that original dvd of chicken little is clean.A big fat fingerprint will give you that crc error as well.

@gurnard
Your possibilities for "data error:(cyclic redundancy check)" are correct, but incomplete, this error can also be caused by copy protection on the disk that a decrypter can't handle. His copy of anydvd is very old and most likely the cause of the error, the latest version (5.9.4.1) will have no problem with getting the backup.

If the update does not resolve the problem, then what you stated should then be checked.

EDIT: Saugmon, you beat me to the punch :(

LOL, Snooze-Ya lose!

Getting tougher figuring out if you get a CRC error due to dirty/scratched/bum disc or encryption related. Knowing the Title of a dvd helps narrow it down.

@saugmon,
Well it's the end of my day and I'm getting tired, time to go home to the wife and kids (the best part of my day).

I think the update to anydvd should do the trick, I've got a friend at work who did this movie last night using the lastest version with no problems.

I keep AnyDVD disabled, until the need arises. It's a very good program: Dvd/Cd encryption removal/frequent updates/ and sets your drive as region free. I also use it to burn on the fly when I get bored out of my gourd.

Later on buddy!

I wanna say a big thanks to everyone that gave me feedback.
Sorry for the wait, but long hours at work.

I updated my AnyDVD and CloneDVD to the latest versions and I was able to make my copy, and later a copy of that without any problems.

I still don't quite understand why there is 3 angles for the same movie and if i uncheck them prior to burn, they still show up on the end burn. Also there are other duplicates as well, which I think may be necesarry to watch some of the extras???

Anyway, I'm done screwing with it. It works fine, looks great!

I would highly recommend AnyDVD and CloneDVD to anyone.
I am virtually a newbie and it was easy!

Thanks again to all...Trick

You're more than welcome trick06, I also used AnyDVD along with clonedvd2 and got a perfect backup that my daughter is trying to wear out. I only chose angle 1 of the three and one angle of chicken little is good enough..LOL..

Take care
John.
