Well, I was proud of myself as I burned my first back up with no problems......... I thought. After the burn, I put dvd in pooter and it worked, with sound, and I knew the test would be my stand alone player.

I put dvd on stand alone and it worked.......... I thought. Then I noticed sound was playing, but no movement. I figured that was just the way the original was, so I kept watching. Hhhhmmmm. Somethings not right.

I put the original in the stand alone to see if any different. At first, no, it was the same. Then I noticed.........hhhmmmm, no movement on the original either. And it acted weird. I couldnt go to different chapters, it would only fast forward to the next, but still no movement.

Is it possible to damage the original while burning?

Here was the process:

Backup DVD: Blue Man Group (Its a video concert)
Used DvdFab to rip to hard drive.
Then used Nero 6 to burn to blank DVD.

I think I damaged the original!!

One note to consider if this isnt possible:

It is a new DVD I just purchased.
One side of the DVD is stereo/Dolby 2.1
The other side is 5.1 sound.

In all fairness, I never watched the DVD from the 5.1 side. (Only cuz I just discoverd this just prior to burning) so I guess there is a chance it was defective from the get-go.
I turned the DVD over and watched the 2.1 side and it is different from the other side. There is movement right away after it starts.

Now I dont want to try burning the other side just in case I am somehow damaging it during backup process.

One other note: The menu showed up on my burn. I could navigate thru the sound options. After that, there was movement in the start, then when they should be moving and playing, only sound came out and there was a still picture.

I dont mind if I made a coaster on my first run, I just dont want to ruin my DVD's.

No you are not "Ruining" your original. All the Drive is doing is reading the disc. Just like a DVD player in your den or living room.

:)

My 2 cents - You probably had a bad original.

Did you look to see if original had a fingerprint on it? Try cleaning it with Windex or alcohol. Wipe from center to outside edge. Never do a circular motion, like we used to do to albums. :o)
If that doesn't work, your original is probably bad............
Good luck!

Well, same her when i got my dvd burner. I thought it's all done in 1 click but it's more complicated than i thought. My friend said to use a specific program to copy dvd, NOT Nero. So i got it and i burned 4 dvd's now and it looks like the original.

Man, I'm glad to hear this. You think I should try burning the other side as I know how it should look after the burn?

Never mind........ I AM burning the other side and will let you know here in about 10 minutes. It didnt take the last burn hardly any time at all.

Right on.

Like I said, I really think that one side is a little screwy.

What software are you using?

IT WORKED!!

I turned it over and burnt the other side and it works perfect. Also, I noticed this side took a little longer which makes sense. The 5.1 side has still pictures on it (from the factory), the 2.1 works as expected.

Wow, whats the odds of that happening to a 1st timer?

The software used was mentioned above....... DvdFab and Nero 6.

Another question regarding DVDFab:
Mine says DVDFab Express on the header box but it is not Express. Is this typical? Just curious.

Man, move over pro's. I'm joing ya....... Just kidding.

It really is easy if you spend a little time reading first.

Sorry there JXP2307. I just snapped that you were asking the other guy about the software question. I have to say Michelago, mine was as easy as a couple of clicks, Nero 6 worked fine for me after using DvdFab.

*Ticked pink...............wheres my next DVD?
