So I have a PS2 with the Fliptop and I have been using for a while and in conjunction with my ActionReply. At first I had a hell of a time getting it to work but after reading some post and trying some things of my own it works now every time. One of the things that has to be done is that there can be no Memory cards in the PS2 when trying to use AR with a backup game. If you do SwapMagic will not boot the game but go to the PS2 Internal browser. So now my kid wants the FFXI with the HDD. As I know I can install a non standard PS2 HDD I would prefer the official so that I can use it for Game Save storage. I am afraid that if I get it and install it then my AR+SwapMagic trick will fail. Do any of you have this setup? If so do you have any problems? I would really like to find out before I spend the 100 bucks for it.

Thanks

You might have to take the hard drive out everytime (but i cant be sure). But to play ffxi, you have to have the official sony hd.

thanks but I am not using AR for my swaping. I have a flip top and Swap Magic. If I load SM only I can load any game no problems with memory cards left in the PS2. However if I want to load cheat codes for a game using AR Max... I can do so but I have to do the following.

1. Turn off the PS2 and remove all memory cards.
2. Insert my USB stick with the AR Max codes
3. Turn on my PS2 and load AR Max.
4. Once loaded select my game and the codes that I want to load.
5. Insert Swap Magic and then select Start Game.
6. Just as the screen goes black remove the USB stick.
7. Once SM is loaded insert my backup and then press X.
8. Once the backup is loaded I can insert my memory card

If I leave the USB stick inserted or I have a memory card in the PS2 when I try this it will not load the backup. SM will boot back into the PS2 internal browser and give a "This is not a valid PS2 disc"

I have been working with others in a different thread and this was the result of trial and error between us all. The above method works every time all the time. My problem is that I think that if I get the Sony PS2 HDD and install it, I will not have any trouble loading my backups since SM does not care about memory cards and such when loading. However since the official Sony HDD can be used as a Memory card as such it can be seen in the internal browser I am thinking that if I try to load AR Max codes with the backup that it will fail. I am not sure but I was looking to see if anyone else had run across this yet...

Thanks though
