I used DVD shrink to copy my movie onto my hard drive, and then I burned it onto a DVD-R. Now it won't play in a DVD player. I get "playback is not available" or "disc error". What is wrong? This is absolutely my first time to do this, so please don't use a lot of acronyms that I don't understand.

It could be that you burned the disc too fast(should stay at about X4), your player does not like that particulat brand of disc, or it doesn't like any DVD-R discs. What brand are they? Also, what DVD player do you have, brand and model? What program did you use to burn the DVD?
Does the disc play in your computer?

Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

The brand of discs is "Verbatim", it does say for use in 4X DVD-Rdrives. What does that mean, and how would I burn it slower? Also, I tried playing it in 3 different DVD players, one a Panasonic, one a Magnovox TV/DVD, and one a another Magnovox cheapie.

Here is a page of step by step guides for burning. Find the guide, for the software you use. There's also links to other software:

Good luck!

That backup isn't recognized by 3 different standalones?

Try playing it on your pc,using the DVD-RW drive that burned it.Let us know how that DVD-RW drive plays them.

What speed rate are those verbatim dash discs: 16x?

What is the brand name and model # of your DVD-RW drive?

What is your burn program? Nero/Dvd decryper/or CopyToDVD?

Dvd shrink only rips and compresses. Another program has to do the burning. DVD Shrink can autoburn using nero6+/dvd decrypter/and CopyToDVD.

OK. I don't know how to play my DVD on my DVD-RW drive. Maybe I don't have the right program? The speed rate of the discs is 4X. The brand of DVD drive is Pacific Digital. It's an Mach-8 8X+8X- DVD burner. I am using Nero to burn.
I tried again using the guide and still no readable disc. I burned it at 4X speed. the guide was a little different than my Nero, so I don't know if I followed all the steps correctly. Also, I am still trying to copy the first movie I copied onto my hard drive. Maybe it's too long? I didn't take out the subtitles and all that stuff.

You'll need a dvd playing software such as: Windvd/powerdvd.Maybe windows media player will work, but probably a crappy picture if you view your backups on it. There's other good dvd playing programs, just not sure what their names are.

Try erasing those files off of your hard drive and start all over.

Have you got DVD Shrink set up to auto burn with Nero?
Or are you opening up Nero to burn the TS files after DVD Shrink is done?

Open up dvd shrink/edit/preferences/File-I/O: Make sure enable burn with Nero is ticked/OK.

Here's how I do it. Use main movie to start with. It'll keep compression down and you may not have to use the quality enhancement settings.

Rip with dvd shrink: Open disc
Let it analyze
Re-author-keep compression down to start with.
Click main movie and drag it to the left side of screen.
Make sure AC3 5.1 ch English is ticked/or AC2 if you don't have the AC3.
Click backup:
Double check your settings:First item. Backup target-should be your drive listed and check mark for burn with Nero if you open up the small v arrow.Just below that is where your files will go afterward/Keep backups region free/quality tab-leave unticked unless it is using some major compression/Options-tick backup in low-priority mode.Burn- set it at 4x if you can.

After double checking all those backup options, click ok. The process should start to encode to hard drive. Then it'll kick out the original disc/insert blank and it should start burning.

I have been opening up Nero and burning. Can you set up DVD Shrink to auto burn? That would be a lot easier. I'll start from the beginning and try this. I'm almost out of DVD discs. Good thing they don't cost much. Which is better, - or +, or does it matter?

Dvd shrink and autoburn with nero:

Open up dvd shrink/click: Edit/Preferences/File-I/O: Make sure the box is ticked for "Enable burn with nero" and click OK.

Now when you open up DVD Shrink-either entire disc or reauthor: When you click that backup tab-the backup options screen pops up:The first tab-is automatically open-It's the Target device tab. You'll see Select Backup Target. You need your burner and model# listed there. Click the v icon to the right of it and you'll see this page:

The red circle is my target device-benq 1640.Below that you need a checkmark beside that model number to auto burn with Nero. Ignore the green circle.

Make sure your burner is the target device with the check mark for burn with Nero.

Double check the rest of those backup options/click ok and process starts/encodes to hd/spits out original/insert blank/and autoburns.Dual drives are even easier-no waiting around for the original to pop out.

Do you have a single dvd drive or dual dvd drives?

Plus or Dash?

Depends on your burner model number and the stand alone players. It's all about compatability. That is why I use plus format, and booktyped to dvd-rom to up the compatability rate. Not all burners have this catability, and only the plus format can be booktyped.

What's the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?
