Since printable dvds and cover art go hand in hand, I wanted to try this section of the forums.
I have gotten some covers from both Hirescovers.com and CoversTo,but wanted to know if anyone is a paid member of Generetic.org covers?
Is is really worth the $20.00 joining price? The covers look awesome, but I wanna be sure before shelling out the $$$. Anyone a member?
Thanks for the help.

If you care about quality, you will avoid cdcovers.cc like the plague. Generetic.org and r1db.com are pay sites, but the quality is incredible. Not only that, you'll find a selection of custom covers second to none at those 2 sites...

@dvdripper: I'm a member, and I haven't regretted it for a moment. I think I only had to pay 12 bucks, but it was money well spent. I've downloaded literally dozens of great covers, and sometimes there are three or four to choose from for a given movie. Hirescovers.com is free (but down at the moment as they upgrade) but has a much smaller database, as I imagine you know. R1DB.com makes you purchase credits (no thanks), but the stuff there is good. About the only negative I can find of generetic is the search function, which is fairly lame. Here's what I do in searching for a cover:
1) generetic.org
2) hirescovers.com
3) covers.to
4) freecovers.net
5) cdcovers.cc
6) screw it, burn it on a regular TY or Verb, pull out the Sharpie and do a Terrell Owens ;-) (Sorry if non-US members don't get the reference)
I'm always wary of cdcovers.cc because of the low-res quality of most things there. Anyway, I say pay the dough and start enjoying generetic. My Epson R200 may be sweating from overuse, but I sure love that site! Plus the forums there are interesting, too.

I just got a lightscribe burner, so are you be able to put the actual dvd labels on with lightscribe. Yea they'd be black & white but it would stil look nice right? Has anybody done it?

Jasper44, IMO Lightscribe is about as exciting as watching grass grow. The "wow" factor losses its wow very quickly. Who wants a collection of monochrome discs? It's like going shopping for a brand-new, kick-ass black and white TV. When it goes full color I'll of course change my tune, but right now it's nothing more than an expensive (discs cost way too much) curiosity.

cdcovers.cc has a bigger selection, from what I've seen.
Than the others you've mentioned.
It's hard not to find a cover on cdcovers.cc.
You are right though about the resolution on, covers.to.
What I do is first go to covers.to
if they don't have what I'm looking for, then I go to cdcovers.cc

dabig25, whatever you like. I just find that if I'm going to actually go to the bother of printing on a disc, using ink, etc., that it should look really good, not just OK. There are no standards for the stuff at cdcovers.cc...some of the uploads are OK and some terrible. No color correction on the scans, no application of filters, no resolution standards, etc. Some have decent res, some lousy.
At generetic members must conform to strict standards whether they are uploading scans or their own custom work. Everything must be 300 dpi, color correction must be applied, clean up of label or cover flaws (scratches, blothches, etc.) must be done, etc. In other words, anyone with a scanner can upload half-assed covers at cdcovers.cc, but you actually need to work at it in order to contribute to generetic. The full covers I've printed from there are stunning. If I were to ever print a full cover (as opposed to just a disc label) from cdcovers.cc it would look like crap. That's why cdcovers.cc will always be my last resort when I'm looking for something. But hey, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Don't get me wrong, I've lately been using covers.to.
The resolution is much better, but I'm just saying ,
when looking for an older or hard to find title. cdcovers.cc has a bigger selection.

Do Generetic and R1DB have the labels/cover that you print directly onto the discs or is it only the ones that go on inside the sleeves on the DVD cases? I just don't want to pay to join and find out they don't have what I am looking for since I only print onto the discs, I don't print the outer jacket covers or whatever you call them. Also, are there any other good sites (pay or free I don't care) for these? I use hirescovers but they don't have a lot of what I search for and I don't really like cdcovers.cc and covers.to because they don't have a lot that is high resolution. I don't mind paying if it's what I need. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Generetic has a mix of covers and disc labels. I don't print covers, either, and as I said above it was money well spent in joining.

Thanks, I just signed up and paid but it seems to be delayed in actually making me a "valued member" so I can't look at anything yet.

grumlenz, peruse the "disc labels" sections under Custom DVD Covers, "scanned disc labels" under Scanned DVD Covers, and "TV disc labels" under TV Show DVD Covers. There is a ton of great stuff there.

That site rocks, you're going to love it. No, I haven't used a spray. I've been tempted to but dislike two things about it: 1) I don't know how anyone can know the long-term effects on the discs of spraying them (even if you're careful to protect the write side), and 2) I probably breath/ingest enough carcinogens without putting myself in a room with a can of that crap ;-) Sure, I'd love it if my Epson prints were glossy, but I can live with what I have.

I use the Nimrock spray from WalMart. Yes I only spray outside with the garage door open and a mask on. Only takes a few seconds per disc. I've tested some that were 6 months old and they are still scoring in the 95-98 range. Longterm effects are still TBD. Of course I have some G05's that I didn't use the spray on that are now unplayable from around 12 months ago. So who really know's.

I paid the $20 and joined, that site is much more about downloading covers. There is a lot of helpful people on there and a lot of very creative people who design custom covers. Well worth the $20 yearly fee.

Yes you have to pay before you can even look around. I did, and it took about a day and a half after I paid for my account to change to show that I had paid. I didn't really the site at first, but I got used to the way you have to search and the way everything on there works, it's worth the money for sure, just takes some getting used to.

I agree. I joined about four months ago and love the site, but I still get frustrated with the search function. It sucks but still worth it for all the cool art available.
