Hi I did a search here and couldn't find a similiar problem so I need to ask you guys for some help. My problem is whenever I connect my PSP to my PC via USB I cannot copy files to the mem stick. I am running XP SP2, PSP firmware 2.60. The PC does detect the PSP initially but when I try to move files onto the mem stick I get the error msg "please connect USB device" I can click out of USB mode on the PSP and then go right back into USB mode and the PC picks it up again. IT will show it as a removable drive and I can go into the mem stick and create/delete folders and view game saves. The minute I try to copy a file to the PSP whether it be music, pics or video it drops connection. Any advice?
Thanks in adavnce! =)

Make sure that the usb cable is snugg. Have you tried a different psp if possible with a different memory card and noticed that it worked?
Did you buy a new memory stick of the internet recently, or is this your 32mb?
If its a new stick, put your 32mb one in there and see if you still have the same problems, if you do it could be your pc, if not you have a fake memory stick.
Let me kno so i could try and help you further

Cable is snug I have 4 USB ports and tried it in all.
New mem stick, Sandisk 512mb purchased at Gamestop.
Same problem when I use the 32mb stick that came with the system.
I don't have another PSP to try it with but I do have a digital camera and a flash MP3 player, neither have this problem. I know that's like comparing apples to oranges but it's all I have to test against.

Yes I can read the contents of the drive, move folders, create folders, and delete folders. But as soon as I try to transfer files to it, it drops the USB connection. I can go to the PSP and click out of USB mode and then click back into USB mode and it shows up in my drive list again.

Sounds like its the usb cable. Unless you have the drive as read-only,which i doubt you did.

Oh man theres a way to set the mem stick as read only?! *n00b alert* I didn't know you could do that. And yeah I think I'll go ahead and grab a new USB cable. Any particular brand recommended? Oh and thanks for all the quick replies.

yea drives and files have the option of being compressed to save space, archived, set as read only blah blahblah

wait before you get a usb cable, the one you bought is it the retractable looking ones? And don't buy the same one over.. try and buy a nyko or one that someone has verified works. cause not all the usb cords work as i had to buy a new one myself

hmm those usually work for the psp, before you go and buy one do you kno someone else with a psp and maybe you can see if its your psp, cause it would suck to get a new usb cable and still have the same problem..
and just to make sure
Go to your C:\Windows\sytem32\drivers folder..
make sure you see
usbstor.sys
and partmgr.sys
i am assuming you did cause you can see into the files..
try reinstalling service pack 2.. maybe your windows is being buggy, and if after that it doesnt work you probably neeed a new usb cable budd

Ok new cable, different PC, checked drivers and locations. I still cannot move files to either of my mem sticks. Now I get an error that reads" Cannot complete transfer I/O device error" What gets me though is I can save my games just fine on both sticks so I know they can be written to and read from. I'm stumped. Surely I'm not the only one who has had this problem.

Ok I don't know why this worked but I just re-formatted both mem sticks and all seems to work now. *boggle* Maybe a bad piece of data was being written? I dunno. If anybody else has this prob as a alst resort you might the good old reformat.

try the usb ports on the back of your pc the ones on the front of most pc's do not have enough power to run the usb connection for the psp
