Hi, I have been having this problem with burning multiple episodes of a tv show onto a dvd. I have been able to solve codec problems, audio sync problems but one still eludes me.

The resolution of my files are 640x480. I am using TMPGEnc 2.5 to encode these into a .mv2 and .wav

The problem is, the default setting of the screen size when I load in the videos for encoding is 1:1(VGA). When I left this default alone, later in a "other settings" button under the "advanced" tab, there is a list to choose from. (If I kept 1:1 VGA before, it is the default here as well).

The drop down box "source aspect ratio" has the choices are:
1:1 [VGA]
4:3 525 line [NTSC]
4:3 525 line [NTSC, 704x480]
4:3 625 line [PAL]
4:3 625 line [PAL, 704x576]
16:9 525 line [NTSC]
16:9 525 line [PAL]
4:3 Display
16:9 Display
2. 11:1 Display

Under this is another drop down box titled, "Video arrange method", with the choices of:
Center
Center [keep aspect ratio]
Center [custom size]
Full Screen
Full Screen [keep aspect ratio]
Full Screen [keep aspect ratio2]
No Margin [keep aspect ratio]

When I try 1:1 VGA and Full Screen [aspect ratio], the video has no stretching at all, but a small sliver is cut from the top and the bottom.

I then tried 4:3 [NTSC] and Full Screen [keep aspect ratio] and it made it worse. The top and bottom were still slightly cut off, but the actual picture was vertically stretched.

SO PLEASE, someone help me, I need to know the right combination to use so that the picture fits with no cutoffs or stretching.

What you are trying to do here is to make the picture wider while retaining it's original resolution vertically. So, to make the horizontal fit to 720 without stretching, you lose some of the top and bottom. Basically it "zooms in" on your picture a bit.
The proper way to do this conversion is to NOT CHANGE THE SIZE. Tell TMPGEnc to use 1:1 for the source and center keep aspect ratio for the arrange. This will result in an image that has borders on the sides while the video portion will remain exactly the same size as before. It may be annoying to see the borders, but the result will be much cleaner than changing the size which will reduce your picture quality.

You can also keep the 640x480 aspect ratio when encoding with TMPEG and then use dvd patcher to trick your authoring software into thinking its 720X480. 640x480 should look fine on a standard tv. You can download dvd patcher for free from dishrip.

Thanks guys for the help.
I just tried the 1:1 and center keep aspect ratio, and it worked perfectly! Thanks again!
