Hello everyone,

I just received a spool of 100 dvd r + from a placed called supermediastore.com. It says the dvds were made in TAIWAN.

I also received 50 dvd r + DL from dell and they say there from SINGAPORE and on the front it says Advanced AZO.

First i like to know which one is the better of the two the one from SINGAPORE or TAIWAN. I would also like to know if DVD R+ come in ADVANCED AZ0. Is Advanced Azo the better of the two and is it some kind of latest technogoly thing. Any light shead on this subject matter would be real helpful as well as appreaciated thank you once again

Advanced metal AZO is the dye used for verbatim and Taiyo yuden. This is some top quality media.

Those 50 +r DL discs that say singapore are most likely verbatim and they'll code as MKM-001-000.These are made in Singapore by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. Run them through a disc identifying program like dvdinfopro/dvdidentifier/nero infotool/dvd decrypter to find that MID code to know for sure.Verbatim is the highest quality media when it comes to Dual Layer media.

Taiyo Yuden uses the same dye,but they are made in Japan.

That 100 pack from taiwan? Lord knows who actually made them until you run them through a disc identifying program, mentioned above.A lot of the verbatim +r and -r single layer media is made in taiwan. Ritek and Ricohjpn are pretty good manufacturers located in taiwan. But there's some crappy manufacturers there as well: Cmagnetics is one of them.

Find the exact MID codes on them.

Low quality media may have to be burned slower, along with a reduced backup target of around 4300 mbs. Stand alone players will have more issues with the lower quality media, that's the reason for slower burning.

High quality media can burned faster. In fact,my benqs perform better with the faster burnspeed on verbatim and taiyo yuden media.Quality media can prevent a slew of issues. Not only burning, but playback.
Different burners react differently:

What is the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?

Hello saugmon,

thank you so much for responding so quickly as i really appreaciate it a lot. anyways your right on the Verbs R+ DL icheck it on my Nero cd dvd speed check it says MKM 001 (OOO). On the Verbs R+ i am getting MCC 003 (000) i think you know more then me. anyways i just learned something new how to read the quialty number thanks. My dvd burner is a sony drx810 UL it is a external dual and double layer burner. I usually use AnyDVD along with clone dvd2 both programs were paid for as well as up to date. The firmware for the dvd burner is also up to date as well. I was going try dvd rebuilder and ccs sp or the basic. But listen to this i get decent quailty already with AnyDVD and clone dvd2. i know one is a transcoder and the other is a encoder. So the quailty will be a lil better with dvd rebuilder and perhaps i have more control over the compression right. The way i look at it is if i know what kind of "TV" i will be watching then i know the proper "MEDIA" to use. like if i am going to watch it on a HDTV i would use Verb r+ DL for the smaller tv i use a Verb or TY DL + R. This way i don't need to waste time but the dual layer disks are a lil bit more expensive. I guess the choice is Mine thank you for your help

MCC-003 media: Top stuff! Getting tougher to find them. But the MCC-004 16x are also sweet. You have to watch out for burning them slow, they do like to be burned faster.

Good luck and burn on!

thread teleported to the DVDR Media forum.

i recently bought a shedload of MCC004, but all mine were made in India (i've used many many 8x Verbatim from India in the past with virtually zero problems).

My LG 4163B (in a USB2.0 enclosure) burns up a storm at 8x with these MCC004 and also the sexy 'Veratim Taiyo Yuden' discs at 8x too, whereas my LG 4167B (internal to PC) can only manage 4x with both types of discs. ho hum but all very nice discs nonetheless

brysonj: It all depends on your burner. These newer 16x writers like benq/plextor/lite-on/Nec/Pioneer/LG all burn up a storm. These are quality drives and if You give them some quality media like ty and verbatim, and they'll usually give a better burn.

Just use a disc scanning program like:

Kprobe-for lite-on drives
Nero Speed test
Dvdinfopro
Plextools- For Plextor drives.

If I had something to burn while I was away from the pc for hours,I'd set it up to auto shutdown with a 2.4x burn. Well a few days later,I tried to re-rip it. Too many crc errors. That's when I started scanning my media and finding out the 8x burns have a lot fewer errors than my 4x burns. On verbatim +16x MCC-004,those 12x backups still scanned 50% better than the 4x backups. No more crc errors for me on any of my benqs. 4x is still ok,but rarely do it unless I am re-ripping for another copy.

Different drives= Different scenarios. You'll have to scan them to find out.

brysonj- Well Plextors are highly rated But expensive & Benq's are also well thought of & somewhat less expensive ! I've had NEC's as well Loved 'em both 2500A & 3500A both excellent drives for my needs ! Bought A BENQ Dw-1655 love it as well replaced the 2500 nec in my desktop so I could booktype among other things . If you are going external would probably be cheaper for you to buy your own enclosure! Also don;t know if your laptop will allow it but you maybe able to swap out it's Dvd rom for a burner
