I have riped my SwapMagic3 DVD (NOT CD) to my hard drive because i want an extra copy if my original get messed up like with all cds.

So heres my question

To burn it i know i have to Burn the files that came off the SwapMagic3 DVD To a Blank DVD.I want to use My Nero to burn it on a blank DVD.I was looking through all the items within Nero & seen under the DVD Data Tab one that read "Make Bootable DVD".Is that the one i would use to burn it?...Im thinking so,sence the original is a bootable disc to,right?

not quite true, bacon. SM 3.6 could be copied, then loaded with SM 2.0 to load newer games, but for the most part this is crap. and there's no need to jump on people like that. please be respectful. :D

Here's your link Funk:

Wow, that was so hard too, I typed 'swap magic' into the search and wouldn't you know it? First page has a thread about copying swap magic 3. If you read that thread you'll see that you can't make a bootable backup copy of it. I'm sure if you keep looking you can find dozens more threads about the same subject posted by idiots like yourself.

such hostility......

A simple no would suffice.

Swap Magic Disc were made with original pressed games which is why it can fool the ps2 and boot. When you burn a dvd the ps2 can recognize this which is why a burnt copy of swap magic will never boot.

Well i tell you, iv tried to use several downloaded versions of Swap Magic, it burns on the disc ok but they never work in the PS2 box, none of them have. Not unless iv missed something that is. Might give up and buy the proper thing.

Regards, Bobby.

apparently, you've missed the entire point. burned SM doesn't work without some original SM.

I don't know alot about this topic but yes hes right when people like us do a manual copy it is a very sloppy version of the real thing. When discs are made they are pressed with security checks embedded onto the disc, thats why we cannot physically boot up a backed up swap magic disk without it being the original or some sort of way to boot it up. ie softmod, modchip.

When you put in the swap magic disc this refreshes the TOC which loads up the game and the swap magic discs have the security confirmation that is needed when you first put a disc in and when you swap the disc, the swap magic disc overrides the security check and seen as though the PS2 doesn't know that you have opened up the drive so doesn't ask for another security check and boots the game.

(Hence the name swap magic and not back up magic) lol

Another way to look at the swap magic disc is to think of it as hardware. I mean at the end of the day if I could burn hardware I would rather be trying to burn the latest graphics card on the market than a boot disc. :-))

yeah your all correct what happends is, SM has special coding which unfortunately our burners thinks is an error and automaticly corrects , the coding i presume is the data the ps2 checks for before it decides wither its an original or back up or not. so that why it wont work

A swap magic disc, in order to work, is pressed directly onto a game disc by the people who manufacture them. But us, our burner is unable to do so, and so it only copies the data. Even with the data, we are UNABLE to play the disc because we can't copy the special coding that is on the original disc.

THE ONLY WAY THAT A COPIED SM DISC WILL WORK IS IF YOU PRESSED IT DIRECTLY ONTO AN ORIGINAL GAME DISC.

...so all and all, there's no point in backing up SM disc.

@FuNkNiTrO
Chill dude, BaconX was just saying since so many newbie kept on asking the same darn question and not try to search for the info first. So give him some respect. People who asked those same darn questions a million time makes this section boring and pretty soon nobody would want to answer questions any more or worse, will go to a different section of the forum.
And there is no way to keep a disc from not scratching (except if you don't use it) so spend a litle more and invest in a chip. No harm there.

Actually I back Funknitro it seems every where BaconX posts he doesn't contribute anything productive and is mostly counter productive and aggressive with anything anyone says.

PS Theres nothing wrong with being a newbie everyone started that way and more often than not there is alot of newbies that know an awful lot, some people should get off there high horses as just because they've made alot of posts wimpering nostalgic nonsense it doesn't mean to say that they are better than other people.

well, I don't think it's so pointless. man who has S.M 3.0 can boot backup of S.M 3.8. It means man who has old version of S.M can enjoy new feature. S.M users can upgrade their software with only 50cents(Verbatim DVD- 50cake):)

The main thing people aren't telling you is, the Swap Magic disc has a barcode on the center area of the disc that the PS2 originally reads before booting the disc. It's on all PS2 games, which is originally why you can't play dvd copys OF games. You can't burn a copy of Swap Magic because you'd still be missing the barcode the disc originally has, making it coming up with the same red screen as a ps2 backup. Hope this helps.
