I just added an NEC 3550a drive to my system It seems to read ok, but when trying to burn an ISO file, it loads both buffers, but after burning 20-20% of the file, the buffers clear completely and the program just stops?

Does anyone know what could cause this?

The only thing that's changed was the addition of the new drive. I have been using decrypter for several years without this issue.

I am trying to burn to DVD-r and have changed the book type to -R as well.

Thanks for any help.

Check to see if the system reverted back to PIO mode. Set it to DMA. You'll find it in the device manager for the drive.

@tmichrina
Hi, I have a Nec 3550A and have no problems burning with Decrypter or Nero.
Check to see if the DMA is on,like Mr.Pink suggested. Here is a guide:
http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

Also, what firmware does your burner have, and what brand discs are you using?
You cannot change the booktype when using DVD-Rs, only DVD+R(W) media.
If you have the original Nec firmware, you can not change the booktype. I have a mod firmware to do that and it works great.

If you get another failed burn, save the log and post it.

Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

hello

in addition to the above, buffer failures are most commonly caused by an overloaded and fragmented hardrive, also running other apps, using the net whilst burning all affect the performance, but i guess you know that....
the nec burner you have is a cheap burner, albeit a good one,and maybe this doesnt perform as good as your old one?

also,are the jumper set correctly?,
is it on master or slave?
apsi layers working?
what speed are you burning?

all these things should be looked at

failing that, use Alcohol 120 to burn your iso,the buffer is more stable, and you possibly will have better results.

hope this helps you out

Thanks for everyone's help. It was the "dma" settings, but it appears to be the DMA settings on the hard drives. They were set to "dma multi word 2" or something like that. I changed both hard drive settings to "ata-166" and it seems to work. I'll continue to fool with some settings and see if I can maximize it, but for now, this has worked.

Again, thanks for your help.
