About a month ago I bought 4 50-packs of +R Sony 8X from Office Depot. I was disappointed to find that the first pack I opened was manufactured by Sony and not Ty. I realized just recently that the Sony mfg packs were actually 16X, but they were mixed in with the 8X on the shelf.

The 8X packs that I have are indeed Ty. I just thought I would share this to help someone else from making the same mistake.

I also picked up a pack of the sony 16x by accident. They coded sony D21. I ran some scans on them and they had more errors than my yuden000-T02 sony +1x-8x. I keep a good lookout from now on with the sony media.

The last pack of MIJ Sony DVD+R's I picked up were TYs...and from what I've read most are.

They were however 8x...

I have a 50 pack of 8x DVD+R Sonys which are coded as TY. Be careful when buying & make sure they are Made in Japan. As proven Made in Taiwan or not TY.

Id also like to add that its far much cheaper purchasing TYD online from a retailer such as SuperMediaStore. A 50 pack of Sonys ran me $24.99 where is the same +R TY pack would be $21.99 & the -R are even cheaper at $30.99 for a 100 pack (best deal).

That's the every day price of wal-mart,way too much for local tys. Go to Office max sunday. The 50 pk japanese +1x-8x spindles will yield taiyo yuden media. $14.99 a 50 pk! That's my max price for regular/plus format media.

On the web,The plus format does cost more than the standard $15 a 50 pk= 30 cents each.Unless you find a real good deal after a huge rebate.
Now the dash format is way cheaper on the net. Very bizarre, but true.I've seen taiyo yuden specials on the net for around 20 cents each.$30.99 for 100 dash is still way too much. You can get them cheaper and maybe even free shipping?

monce- yes my friend but the remaining stock is still floating around the marketplace - The Shiny Thermal printables @ 4X maybe starting to become less available but I've noticed that the Inkjet printable Taiyo Yuden 4X media is showing up atleast in online ads anyway so there's still some 4x around if that's what is wanted ? the question you need to ask yourself is are Sony MIj 8x DVD+r's Cheaper than online Taiyo yuden if they are on sale this weekend ? factoring shipping & Taxes if applicable ! Personally as long as it's Genuine Taiyo yuden Media it can say sony or fuji on the label surface or just be Shiny Thermals or inkjet printables . Though given a Prefference I would probably buy the branded versions simply because can get them locally & would be 8x instead of 4x in same general price range! Though nothing wrong with good old 4x taiyo's just don't need to buy 300 right now to get the free shipping deal @ sms. The weird thing seems to be that DVD+R's online more expensive than DVD-R's but retail /branded media it's the same price for both ! Anyways good luck monce , Saugmmon & all my friends - Peace & happy shopping ! Charge it !!!! LOL!
