Using DVd shrink is very CPU intensive, CPU usage can be greater that 90%. Your processor maybe over heating or the power supply maybe intermittently failing while using DVDshrink, causing the PC to lockup and/or reboot. Open your case and make sure all the fans are operating properly, especially the one on the processor. Clean all the dust bunnies that have collected on the components inside. You could also try and run shrink with the case open and see what happens (to see if it's a heat related issue), if everthing is clean and all the fans are spinning properly, the culprit could be your powersupply, if this is the case simply get a replacement.

I had this problem before too, and as John said, make sure your fans are all unobstructed and spinning properly. I, for the life of me, couldn't figure out why my computer was shutting down for "no reason." Then I got an error message saying my CPU was overheating. Lo and behold, when I flipped my tower around to look at the back, my air intake was completly clogged with dust. Cleaned it up and haven't had a problem since. If that doesn't work, it may be, as John said, your power supply is shot.

For a lappy well just make sure you know what your doing - little different from a tower - but yes where the fan(s) are. Just be careful with the screwdriver! You can also try a cooling pad to set it on.
Another reason shrink will shut down when encoding is if it can't handle the copy protection. If that's the case you should try running AnyDVD (free for 21 days) in the background.
Or ripping it w/ dvdfab decrypter 1st then opening those files in shrink and process as usual.
What movies give you this problem?

I'm actually having the same problem. I bought a new case for my PC. It's has lights on the front and a lighted fan on the side. I placed my old parts in there because they were essentially new. I attempted to use DVD Shrink and about 10 minutes into the process the pc shut itself off suddenly. When I attempted to restart it, it flickered on and then shut itself off. I read and tried pretty much everything here. I cleared all of the dust from the pwr supply and CPU fan, I tried running it with the case open, tried running it with the lights disconneted, checked to make sure the pwr cable was plugged in all the way. I keep having the same problem. It was working fine before I put it in this new case. It's a Phantom Gamer Case #8868 and I'm running Windows XP SP2 with an AMD Athalon XP 2900+ and 1.50 GB of PC3200 DDR ram. Any help thrown my way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the PC will remain running if I don't run DVDshrink or Nerovision Express.

I've got a 3 gigaherts processor and process upto 6 dvd's at once either decrypting, deep analysing, encoding, and Burning . Recently the computer would freeze. Encoding uses alot of RAM "random access memory". My Dell came with 2 256 mb. sticks on the motherboard 512 Mb. RAM., I bought a one GIG. stick put it in and now have over 1.5 GIG. Ram. I checked for heat when it was runnuing it the hardest over at least 15 min "Cool as a Fan.". The RAM upgrade did the trick. My computer never shut down before, it just froze. The most of its 1500+ MB. ram I've seen it use is 1100, pushing it as hard as I could. Also other programs would run where the would lag before like I explorer.

Try a memmory upgrade, if you think you cpu is up to using it. You want at LEAST a 1.5 or 1.6 gig. cpu "Central Proccessing Unit", for proccesing, and compressing video. You can upgrade your memmory all you want ,but if your cpu cant cache it there's no point., Hope this helps.

A 3 gigahert processor is about as fast as you need and is the most important thing to consider while purchacing a computer, then consider what you can upgrade, Later; Disk drives Ram, Blockbusterpass.

What bothers me is that it was working fine before I changed cases. That's the only thing that's changed. Same CPU, same RAM, same Pwr supply. I just can't see how changing a case would cause it to do this. I'm assuming it only does it when I'm running a prog that uses up a majority of my processor speed.
