Reading all these messages it seems to me that no one with one of these time machines can back up a movie with any degree of sucsess.Surely that if you all got together as a group then you would get some sought of support.I have now fitted 4 of these burners in different types and configurations of machines and had no probs so it looks like time have an issue. You can load on your own operating system if you wish you dont have to use the recovery cd it may be a conflict in the way its setup. Some interesting reading i came across the other day was that when the recovery cd is ghosted its only the bare bones and not the full box and dice.......

Hi, I have a Time Powerstation which Ive recently got, and Im a bit cautious on using the Matshita DVD Burning drive that came with it, after reading all these messages. I dont know if I would have any problems now, I dont know much about computers but as soon as I powered up the computer after I got it, I ran CHKDSK and it found loads of errors, turned out that the computer just had too many errors. I formatted both hard drives (The powerstation came with 300 GB of HD space over two 150 GB drives) and reinstalled a fresh Windows XP. Would I get any problems??? Thanks

i have bought 25 classic yellow top datawrite, found they burn fine! BUT- they dont play in all dvd players,i have a sony 305s and a tesco cheap brand, they work on sony but not always on tesco cheap brand ,also, sometimes neither of my time dvd player or 9581 will recognise the disks after they are burnt.so sometimes i cannot make a copy of a copy unless i burn the vob files as data only.im using nero 6 to burn-dvd decrypter to rip,and shrink beta to encode,if anyone has any ideas of any better software then let me know.also i am using dvd shrink_as said in my last message-yellow classic dvd-r's-update= bought 25 burnt 3 binned 5 due to 9581 compatibility, now im pulling my f---ing hair out, how much more do i have to waste on this drive? if i phone time ,they will say return the complete computer back ,cost-(i heard from good sources £70 ,so why send back complete thing when it is only the dvd rw drive.any comments from anyone in my situation still,? i would appreciate your comments.

Use DVD Shrink. It's a free program and is very easy to use. It stores all the compressed files on your hd and will allow you to make umpteen copies.

I too have a Time 3809 with the Matshita DVD-RAM SW-9581. I've only used DVD-RW for back-up once, so can't comment. But I have come up against a problem trying to write to Pressit eBusiness cards. For anyone not familiar these are credit card size & shape. Hold 30Mb. Designed to be used in any CD-R drive. But mine insists there's no disc in the drive. Your suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I'm told by a reliable source that the A106 will burn to any disk! He said the problem was more likely to be with the dvd player being able to read all disks.

My Panasonic SW9581 is set on region 2 with 4 possible changes. Does anyone know if there is any software or firmware available to increase the number of changes available. Better still, is it possible to make it multi-region.

I also have this drive and have had no problems at all with it!....i must be the 1st one then!..lol...im using Clad DVD ripper to rip them to the HD and selecting full dvd back up (CAN ONLY BE USED ON WINDOWS XP). then pinnacle to resize it if its over 4.3gb in size and again no problems at all. I also use Nero 6 to burn dvd files if its under 4.3gb, just put the all the dvd files into a VIDEO_TS folder and select UDF DVD ROM in Nero and it works great. Avoid DVD2One cos its crap especially on dual layer dvd's. because of the quality. (very pixelly). And since using Pinnacle for doing straight one2one copies which takes on average 50mins to encode its been flawless!....hope this helps anybody...

HBell, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately DVD Region-free does not support the Matshita (Panasonic) SW9581. Although it states that on their website, I still downloaded a version & tried it but they are right, it does not work. Do you know of anything else I can try?

Hi folks,

Same Time machine as the rest of you. Mine always worked fine using on CD-R and CD-RW's made by TDK and IMATION using all of the software titles mentioned. No problems with playing DVD's either.

HOWEVER....

Can not get the drive to recognise that there is a DVD+RW in the drive. Haven't tried with DVD-R's yet. The DVD+RW's are by Packard Bell and have a silver/blue recording surface. I have downloaded the updated driver but even that keeps asking me to isert a disk even though the disk is already in there.

Any suggestions? If it is because the disks are DVD+RW can you generaly return them to the store where purchased? On the back of the cover there is mention that you should check with the drive manufacturer first to check compatability, BUT where can we get this info from???

It needs to be a DVD-RW disk. NOT a DVD+RW. It just will not work.

I read the entire thread and came to the conclusion that as far as purchasing the right DVD media and so on was concerned, the safest bet was to buy the DVD <Minus> Sample Pack (DVD-R & DVD-RW) from http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk for testing. Money well spent and a speedy service as well, well done SVP!!.

The following is a recipe, which worked for me although I don't guarantee it working for you.

1) Forget Pinnacle Instant Coastermaker!!! (Congrats to those that got it to work)
2) Download and install DVD Decrypter
3) Download and install Nero 6
4) Take DVD and insert into a DVD drive, start DVD Decryptor, make sure that DVD Decryptor is looking at the correct drive and it should recognise the contents of the DVD.
5) Click on the DVD image to begin decryption
6) Once finished, check that the contents have been copied to your hard drive, you should find that DVD decryptor has created a directory (usually with the DVD name) and have created a VIDEO_TS and, maybe, an AUDIO_TS subfolder
7) Start Nero 6 Express (if you have just downloaded this, then you may have to go through a couple of Demo windows first until you get to the wizard).
8)Select the DVD-Video Files option
9) You should now see two folders (AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS) what you need to do is drill into each folder and Add the contents of the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder that were created by DVD Decrypter on your hard drive.
10) Once done select Next, give the DVD a name and hit the Burn button
11) With any luck this should burn you a nice copy of the material in about 30 minutes.

NB: I have tried this method twice and have been succesful on both occasions, in particular with the Datawrite DVD-R 4X Yellow (DV 358) and the Ritek Printable (DV 371)
I hope this helps someone out there.

Bhind:

Your method is ok if u dont need to shrink the DVD but if u do u will need a prgram like Shrink or DVD2One. I use shrink its free and more user friendly. Shrink will decrypt and compress almost all DVDs there r a few which it cant do but i have yet to come across them.

You need to go into 'My computer' and then double-click on the drives either F G H I - when the memory card is inserted. You should then find the folder with the photos in whatever one corresponds to the card. Hope this helps...

Can anyone with the Time powerstation recommend a definitive DVD-RW that works without problem?

Thanks.

Youngers Hi
Thanks for the info re. the card reader, its simple when you know how!.
Re the DVD-RW , yes I have a 5 pack of TDK DVD-RW, item code DVD-RW47S, and they all work fine, I hasten to add , NOT with Pinnacle 7, but with Nero 6. I use them to keep my coasters down to a minimum when playing about with films. essexman

The memory card reader/writer is the best thing on this PC. I have an E-200 Smartphone which uses Storage Cards (SD's) and makes life so much easier! Its blooody fast too ! All you need to do is format the card if it hasnt been done so already, insert it in the corresponding drive and it will do the rest for you. Drive H: on mine is SD.

Hope this helps,
