Hi, I hope someone can help me! I downloaded DVD Derypter but I'm lost in how to use it. I ripped the movie using Shrink and then it brought up DVD Decrypter to burn, but it won't recognize my external burner, it keeps showing my CD drive in my laptop. Is there a setting I can change so the program will recognize by external burner. Any advice is great....thanks.

Open up decrypter and see if you can pick your external drive under 'destination'. Is it listed there and can you see the drive from 'my computer'?

Newbie 7,
Thanks so much for your help, I tried that...it only list my laptop drive, for some reason it's not picking up that I have a external burner. I looked in the control panel,and their is an Icon that says, Nero Image Drive, would that have anything to do with it?
Are they any special settings in Decrypter that I need to check or uncheck?

Nero Image Drive is a virtual drive and should have nothing to do with your problem. Your PC has to recognize your external drive or the software definitely won't. The burn option or drive should be selected in the Shrink software "Backup DVD" under the "Target Device" tab. You use the drop down box to open a window to locate the option if not already listed. If burning with Decrypter, select that option. However, the PC has to list the burner drive in My Computer for software to recognize it. That's important in setting the drive in DVD Decrypter. You set Shrink to use DVD Decrypter and set the drive in DVD Decrypter.

In DVD Decrypter (under Mode) you need to select ISO W (write) and then select your drive in the drop down box. This is where it's important your PC lists your drive.
Remember, if you use DVD Decrypter for ripping you'll need to change the mode setting to what's needed after using Decrypter as a burner. After initially setting the drive it should stay in memory and Shrink automatically sets DVD Decrypter to ISO W and burns.

I think he did all that already. I dunno.
But if Decryptor is not picking it up, it's not the program. Check under 'My Computer' to see if it's listed.
Make sure everything is properly connected. Did the external drive come with any driver CDs or anything like that? Are you connected via USB? Make sure those are quality cables and are securely attached.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Mr Pink, other than saying to check the cables, the part about the drive showing up in My Computer was covered. Quote:

Or did you miss that? If the drive isn't being picked up automatically by the plug and play system, I'd suggest going into the Control Panel and try using the Add Hardware application. If that fails, then I'd go into System/Hardware/Device Manager and check the connection from there. That's assuming the cable connection is good. You can also troubleshoot from the Device Manager. Sometimes merely unplugging and plugging the cable back up while the PC is on will have Windows pick up the drive.

Thanks so much for all your help!!Having the pics to look at reall helped. I finally put the CD back in and it reinstalled it. Someone told me when you use a wireless USB and my burner is external USB, sometimes it gets wacked out!
Now,do you rip with Decrypter and then switch back to Shrink to compress it and then back to Decrypter to burn? I have never used Decrypter. When using Shrink, can I get rid of the Unreferenced Material and Extras before I compress?
I really new to this madness, but it's gotta get easier!!

I think you have the process in order. DVD Decrypter is a dual function app, so it can come first and last. DVD Decrypter still rips a lot of movies. You'll find an occasional one with the newer copyright protection that it can't handle alone. Shrink lost support a long time ago, so it's decryption software is really out of date. If you ever run into a problem, I suggest using AnyDVD along with DVD Decrypter. So, assuming it is a DVD that DVD Decrypter can rip, you rip with DVD Decrypter in File or ISO R mode, then you use DVD Shrink to compress (shrink) the files, then with DVD Shrink set to burn with DVD Decrypter, DVD Decrypter is opened automatically to burn the ISO output from DVD Shrink. You will have had to set the drive location in DVD Decrypter if you have multiple drives (as you found out). As I mentioned before, when you open DVD Decrypter after a burn session, you have to reset the Mode when you're going to use it for ripping again.

Bro Bear,
You da bomb! I have been trying to figure this process out for a couple of days now! Finally got aggravated enough to get on line and see if there was any help out there. I saw a website that said, 1ClickDVD was rated #1, have you tried that program? So, AnyDVD will replace what Shrink does? Is that right? When I start decrytping with Decrypter, does it matter where you save the file too? I just did a movie with decrypter and when I did Open File in Shrink, gave me an error message, failed to open file. Just when I thought I had it all figured out!!

Like I pointed out, the decryption software in both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are obsolete. The authors of those apps were forced to drop support. That means that copyright protection developed following the time that support was dropped may not be processed by these programs, at least not properly.
As for AnyDVD, if you visit the site and read the info they supply, you will get a good picture of what the app does. It's a driver decryption tool that works in the background to bypass copyright protection on both DVDs and CDs.
Having AnyDVD there's no reason not to use it. Using AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter creates no more steps than using DVD Decrypter alone. So, you usually have the best "cleaned" source available for use from a hard drive folder. On the occasion when you encounter those more difficult copyright protection schemes, you have the files there on the hard drive to continue the process with FixVTS. It's an efficient system that works for me and many others. It's not the only one. Remember Slysoft recommends turning off CSS Cracking and Check for Structure Protection in DVD Decrypter and have SPTI checked (those are in Settings in DVD Decrypter).
Since some of the newer protection with Arccoss requires multiple steps, I suggest using the AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter method so the source files will be on the hard drive to work with. Sometimes those files have to be processed with FixVTS to make them compliant.
In many cases a person could simply have AnyDVD turned on and go ahead and use DVD Shrink or another transcoder of choice. It's that occasional difficult protection that causes the problems with that. One just has to realize what they're up against. Reading the info window that comes up in AnyDVD can help there. You may have to select the info window option.
Yes, when ripping with DVD Decrypter is is important where you save the file. For one, you have to have enough space at the location, then you have to remember where it is so you can open the files in your recording software.
As for 1ClickDVD, I can say it's rank and then you'd have an opposing opinion from another site. I'll just say I wasn't impressed with it.
Just so you understand AnyDVD only replaces part of what DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink do. Shrink bypasses copyright protection (decryption), transcodes (shrinks the files to the target media), and then can select some external burner apps for the burn part of the process. Short version, it decrypts and transcodes. AnyDVD replaces only the decryption software.
DVD Decrypter actually does 3 things. It decrypts, copies the files to the HD, and can be used to burn files. AnyDVD only replaces the decryption part of the software. DVD Decrypter is still handy for copying files to the hard drive and for use in burning files.
So, AnyDVD is a background, driver type, decryption tool used for bypassing copyright protection. Some newer DVD releases (with Arccoss) require processing after decryption for compliance using FixVTS (or VobBlanker). AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter is used to copy the decrypted files to the hard drive so FixVTS can be used. Then the files can be opened in the transcoder software, processed and then burned.
