How do you start saving games on to your hdd if your memory card is full? please give detailed instructions.. thank you

In my opinion you can't use hdd as memory card. You can transfer savegames off memory card to hdd and back. Put HDD won't work as memory card. You need some software like ARMAX thingies or something like that to do the transfer.

I wouldn't risk messing with those ARMax things. One of them corrupted my 2 years worth of data. :(

You might also want to try MC Manager. It's still in BETA but it even creates a partition to save a backup of your saves. And after you have them backed up with it, you can easilly restore them back.
