Hi all,
I'm new to this site and its' forums; and let me say it looks like a fantastic place to learn heaps about my computer. Kudos to all involved.

I've come here as I have a question. My pc came with Dell Media Experience which doesn't allow me to save images from a dvd, so I just downloaded MPC (on it's own, not the K-Lite codec philraz refers to in thread 305972; I don't know enough about all the stuff the codec contains to know if I should or not) and have tried saving still images. It saves them, but they are narrower than they appear in MPC. It's as if the picture has been squashed from both sides. Is there a way to save the images so they appear normal??? Or a setting I need to change???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well DVD's are resized on playback. Works fine here though.
Source: 720x576
Cap: 1024x576

What build of MPC are you using?

Hi celtic_d,

I'm using the build I downloaded from here (afterdawn) 6.4.9 I think. (sorry I'm at work now not in front of my pc at home)

How do I find out the source and cap figures you quote in your reply??

Thanks!

Have you tried just going into fullscreen and pressing the Print Sceen key, then pasted the image to a new Paint window? That usually works every time for me.

It could also be that whatever output method used may effect that capability. In Options, under Output, it says that Overlay Mixer can not be used to save images, so if it's set on that option, then you should change it to one of the others, preferably VMR9 (renderless) for best results.

If Im online, Im usually on Steam:

Just to clarify, playback of the dvd with MPC is fine. It's when using the File > Save Image where the problem comes up. The jpg file that I save is what is narrow. I'll try to attach the picture when I get back home.

Thanks for your assistance.

Well I am running a newer version than you. Output set to VMR9 renderless. As I said, no problems with captured images.

Thanks for the info guys! Your help is greatly appreciated.

celtic_d - I'll have a look around then and see if I can find a newer version. Thought I had the lastest one as I just downloaded it from here (AfterDawn) yesterday.

rikoshay - the printscreen and paste into Paint works a treat! I didn't change the output to VMR9 (renderless) as it isn't available in my version - only VMR7 (renderless) is. I might attempt that change when I find the newer version of the software.

Thanks again!!

What you need for VMR9 is DirectX 9. I'd test VMR7, however I am running win2k. Haali's render is another option.
