After GCSEs, I will most likely stay @ my school's sixth form too (despite my wanting, other colleges are quite far tbh) to do my AS/A2 Levels. I plan on doing English Lang and Lit, History, Chemisty at AS and A2, then something else which I'll most likely drop after AS.

*** - AS is first year of course, A2 is second year. It's common practise to drop one of your AS levels - ***

After that I plan on going to University to do a Degree in English (probs Lit) and maybe take it with History and major in English. Not entirely sure yet.

Then the world awaits me and I intend on travelling a lot before settling into full time work.

:-)

@billybob and ripper

Definitely finish all your education BEFORE you take time off and while all is still fresh in your head. Then enjoy your self. You might have too much fun and end up not going back to school. JM2C

Good morning all!

@billyboy and ripper: Garmoon is absolutely right; it is very easy to get out of the habit ... finish school first then have your fun! In my youth it was the draft (conscription I believe the brits call it). Many had to postpone college because they were forced into the military and when they came out (if they came out) many were unable to return to school because they were older and had responsibilities which kept them away from their education.

Ireland sent this to me this morning; as an ex military man myself, I thought it important enough to post:

Hooaahhh!

It may take you two minutes to read this, but if you do not take the time to read this you are one of the people this post is talking about.
_________________________
You stay up for 16 hours.
He stays up for days on end.
_________________________
You take a warm shower to help you wake up.
He goes days or weeks without running water.
__________________________
You complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.
__________________________
You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.
__________________________
You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.
He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
__________________________
You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
__________________________
You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.
_________________________
You complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.
__________________________
You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He doesn't get to eat today.
__________________________
Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.
__________________________
You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
__________________________
You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.
He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.
__________________________
You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.
__________________________
You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.
__________________________
You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.
__________________________
You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.
__________________________
You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.
__________________________
You see only what the media wants you to see.
He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
__________________________
You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
He does exactly what he is told.
You stay at home and watch TV.
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.
__________________________
You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.
He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.
____________________________
You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him.
If only there were more men like him.
___________________________

If you support your troops, resend this with a "Hooaahhh!"
If you don't support your troops well, then don't resend, it's not like you know the men and women that are dying to preserve your right.

Yeh I got the email from a vacationing member this morning. LOL. And a Hooooaaahhhhh!!!! goes out to the troops. :)

Ripper and billyboy,
Be smart and finish first then play all you want to. You've got plenty of time to "create" that "perfect" family later. HEHEHE!!!! :P

Amen gerry.

As Vietnam era vet, who was never exposed to danger, much of this rings true to me and all of it to the brave souls fighting or patrolling anywhere away from home. A very big "Hooaahhh" and the safe return of all of them.

Edit And Ireland ye should have posted it. Hope your're doing fine.

And I got this yesterday. Check it out. Get out your hanky.

My thoughts and best wishes have always been directed to those that serve within the forces. As we are all aware, it is their courage, determination and absolute sacrifice that we can call ourselves free. A great DEBT of grattitude cannot be dismissed. Here's to the men and women that keep us safe from those elements that would harm us all. If I may quote from a movie......it goes someting like this......

"you need people like me on the wall" (which movie was it guys?)

Hint......Jack Nicholson.

This thought or statement may be uncomfortable to some, but isn't it close to the truth?

Is it also true that the pen is mightier than the sword?

When penmanship and protocol fails, then a call to arms may never be the best solution. It is in my opinion when options fail, that we defend and defend all that are sympathetic (allies) to the course of action needed, to bring about the neccessary outcome that has a beneficial need of the many and not the few.. This may seem kinda pias to some, but when push comes to shove........ count me in.

Gerry you have stated in past posts that you were/are involved in eclesiastic studys, I sincerely hope any and all comments that I make do not affend you and yours (beside the bad spelling of eclesiastic, please post the correct wording).

All the best buddy..

And to all that have served and to those that continue to do so......my everlasting grattitude for efforts and said sacrifices. Without you, our thoughts and prayers may come to nought. Kind for kind and blood for blood. The phrase "bothers in arms" was never coined for nothing...

My heart yearns for better times to come.......... I shed tears for times past.

I've Got Your Back!

I am a small and precious child, my Dads been sent to fight...
The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams late at night.
He will be gone far too many days For my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud.
Because My Daddy's got your back.......

I am a caring mother.
My son has gone to war...
My mind is filled with worries
That I have never known before
Everyday I try to keep
my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud.
Because My son has got your back......

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most will never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack...
My heart may break to pieces, but I am proud.
Because My husbands got your back......

I am a Marine, Soldier, Sailor & Airman......Serving Proudly, Standing Tall.
I fight for Freedom, Yours and Mine by answering this call.
I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Please Say a prayer that I'll come home soon.
Because it's me who's got your back.....

Are you saying that all you have to do is to cry out and be saved? Perhaps we have progressed and no longer need those childlike warmths? Are these times long past for you and I? Me thinks the answer is sometimes yes and sometimes..........?

Good morning all! Well, I just woke up. I went to read the stuff above but I'm to brain dead upon awaking to read it ... I thought my head was going to explode trying to read it so I'll wait an hour or two when I'm a little more intellectually able (I know, a rare occurance indeed, but it does happen for a very brief period of time in the mornings)LOL!
