I ripped and burnt the game using DVD Decrypter (at 1x no less) but for some reason, when I boot it using SM 3.6, it won't load the game and it says its not a valid PS2 disc.

I read somewhere that there's a special procedure you have to use to boot the game but I don't remember what it is because that site was taken down.

Someone around here said something about "x, x, down, x" but I don't see how that'll get it to boot.

So, anyone have a solution?

You are talking about two different things here.

First of all have you gotten any other PS2 back up to work? Or is this the only game you have tried? What version ps2 do you have? Are you using fliptop?

There's a Resident Evil 4 ISO floating around out there that is PAL/NTSC selectable so when the game first loads up, you'll get a shaky messed up screen so it's not legible. On the first screen you need to select the language. Since the default option is on "English" (and i'll assume you want English), just hit 'X'. Now on the second screen you need to hit 'down' then 'X' to select 'NTSC' mode. Your video mode is now set and you are ready to play RE4.

Yeah, I'm using a flip top (okay, really its a slimline PS2 with ghost clips but anyway). I've gotten other games to work.

And I took the game directly from the original pressed disc.

All right. Well, you might want to update your firmware. go to rpc1.org and look up the model/make of your burner. Download the firmware and flash your drive.

I'm guessing your firmware is outdated. This usually fixes problems like this.

Good luck!

Okay, I know what I did wrong. I actually had 2 DVDs (RE4 and a data DVD) in my computer at the time and I actually ripped the wrong DVD.

However, thanks for telling me about the firmware. Mine was updated so I took care of that.
