i recently have come across the problem of deciding which setting goes with which movie and vise versa, i'm still new to the AEC quality setting and i have only done one movie so far and that was se7en using the default (sharp) setting. the movie came out great, it looks just like the original to me. but what about the other settings, how are they effective. for example i want to compress the godfather and i know its around 56 percent compression, which AEC setting should i use and why, and could someone please give me a basic breakdown of what each setting is good for?

lmura,
Welcome to the forum. Below is just a guide and you can change the % if you want to as it all is in the eye of the beholder. Remember when you use the AEC Settings it will take longer. Personally any thing that is below 80% I use DVD-Rebuilder Pro
Compression:
90-99.6% - Max Sharp
80-90% - default sharp
65-80% -smooth
less than 65% - max smooth
The settings changes the compression among the 3 types of frames I, B, P

do you also keep all the 5.1 and dts audio options using the dvd rebuilder pro? is it dvd rebuilder pro 1.09? also i wanted to know about this setting again:
Compression:
90-99.6% - Max Sharp
80-90% - default sharp
65-80% -smooth
less than 65% - max smooth
in dvd shrink it gives a percentage number, is that the number that i follow for your chart? i know its just an example but is that how it basically goes?

lmura,
I only keep the 5.1 audio. The newest version is 1.09.2. The number Shrink gives and the number in the chart are essentially the same. If I was going to use Shrink then I would use only 2 of the AEC Settings and that is the Sharp and the Max Smooth.
Have you tried the free version of DVD-Rebuilder and did you use the HC encoder which IMO is almost as good as CCE.

would you still use sharp setting if the movie is 94% compressed? or would you leave it and not use the AEC settings if movies are between 90-100%?

lmura ,
Sharp is fine. 6% compression means good quality backup usually

i tried to reauthor a widescreen dvd, and i just chose the movie, but when i play it on my dvd player the movie itself is in standard, the people are stretched horizontally plus the subtitles automatically turn on without selecting them, do you know what i can do to fix both of these problems?

lmura,
Shrink does not take a WS movie and turn it to Full Screen. Is your DVD Player able to watch Fullscreen, Letterbox, Widescreen, etc. That might be turned on on the Player. You also might have the subtitles cut on also on the Player
