hey, guys.

after my last post, I did what was suggested and it's still not burning. Now, is this solely because of the memory???

Thanks!

Nina

Hi drlshalf

Try and make these changes before you try burning again.

Here:
Recorder: <PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104> Version: 1.30

Your burner's firmware is a bit behind at version 1.30, the current version for your burner is 1.41. You can update by downloading and running the file from the link provided.

http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/media/downloads/r4fw141.zip

Or you can get it from here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=298

Here:
Physical memory : 246MB (252656kB)
Free physical memory: 46MB (47376kB)
Memory in use : 81 %

256MB of memory is a bit low, if possible try and add more to bring it up to at least 512MB. Also 81% of it is in use, try and close any applications you don't need running and try not to do anything with the PC while the burning process has started.

Here:
Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2286127 (508:01.52, 4465MB)

Have shrink or nero recode2 produce smaller files sizes to keep from burning too close to the disks outer edge (not a good thing). In shrink goto: edit-->preferences, in the preferences tab choose custom from the dropdown menu and enter a value of 4300.

Here:
Recorder: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: RITEKG - 05

Media Specific [16..63]:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

Your burner is unable to correctly recognized those RITEKG disks you're using, the firmware update should take care of this problem, but if not, then try a different brand of media like Sony DVD+Rs (made in japan type).

Here:
Burn process started at 1x (1,385 KB/s)

1x is way too slow, don't know if you set it to 1x or it defaulted to 1x because of the media issue. Try and set the write speed to 4x.

I upgraded the firmware and how do I speed up the burning process?

Thanks John. I appreciate it.

Are you autoburning with nero using DVDshrink or are you burning with nero manually?

If using shrink to autoburn with nero:
When you click on the "backup" tab in DVD shrink, look at the fifth tab.

This is the "Burn Settings" tab, here you can select the "Volume Label" & "Burn Speed" & "Book Type" if the "Burn with Nero" option is checked in DVD Shrink's preferences. If you do not have "Burn with Nero" checked in DVD Shrink's preferences, it will be grayed out. Here is where you set the write speed for nero, set it to 4x.

To check this in DVD shrink goto:edit-->preferences, look at the File I/O tab, I believe that here is where you should see the burn with nero option, make sure it's checked.

"A bit low?"

I think the burn process would exponentially increase in speed if you were to upgrade that memory. And there's only like 46mb free!

Everything John has stated is pretty much right on. I just thought I'd provide some emphasis on the dangerously low memory.
