I am still relatively new to this, and very new to DL technology. I have never booktyped a drive, and am curious on this process. I have researched the cost of DL+R vs. DL-R, and the +R are significantly cheaper. I have read on the forum that if you booktype a +R to DVD-ROM, you have a great chance of getting this to work in most standalone players.

How do I go about booktyping my drive?

I just picked up a P.O.S Emachine AMD Athlon 64 3200+ system to replace my home-built that died. It is an XP Home, 1GB PC3200 Ram system with a ? Dual Layer burner drive.

Anyone that can help?

What's the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?

What programs do you use for the dvd backup process?

Not all drives have this capability. Some need special utilities/burn programs/and hacked firmware.

Your drive is actually an NEC 3500...the bitsetting utility can be found here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=105995

I can honestly say I don't know. How would I find out my drive manufacturer? It came pre-installed. As far as software. I use a few different softwares. DVDFab Decrypter, Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and Nero Express to name them. Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

@birsling

Open DVD Decrypter, go to Tools, Drive, Capabilities....the list that pops up will give you your burner model and firmware version. Take that information to http://www.rpc1.org and search for a newer version.
