i haven't even been lucky enough to get to the part where i record dvd's! (sigh)

i have my dvr hooked up to my satellite dish receiver through an RF modulator. i did it exactly like the book from my digital company says, so i'm 98% sure it's correct.

but when i even try to play a DVD, i get sound out of my surround sound, but no picture. i can't get my tv to switch to video mode which i suspect is the problem.

my tv is old and doesn't have av jacks in the back thus the reason for the modulator. i don't think the modulator should have anything to do with switching the tv to video mode, but i'm at a loss.

anyone have any ideas? maybe an easy walk-through to make triple sure i have it all hooked up right. i'm not stupid about these things - have hooked up many, many components successfully, but am feeling very stupid right now!

btw, i've searched everywhere on the web for advice and this forum is the closest i've found to being helpful. thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

So you have the RCA cables going from your DVR into the modulator and a coaxel cable going from the modulator to the TV?

What TV channel is your modulator set to send the signal to? Channel 3 or 4?

thanks for answering! yep, that's the hook up i've got. the modulator is set to 3 which is the same channel my satellite receiver comes in on.

i got a replacement remote for the tv and all other options work except to switch it to video mode. i have also tried the menu option on the front of the tv, but it doesn't give me the option to switch to video mode.

would it be better to replace the modulator with a vcr and try it that way?

many thanks!

You have your satlite going in the TV with a coaxal cable?

What I dont understand is if your TV dosent have AV jacks in the back then how could there be a VIDEO mode for your TV?

You have a DVR sytem. This is a system with a hard drive in it where you can recored to the Hard drive or you can burn DVD/Play DVD's with it?

How do you have the DVR system hooked to your satilite dish? Is it connected VIA RCA jacks or Coaxel? How is the Satlite connected to your TV?

Your satlite dish should be connected to your DVR system so you can record TV shows off the Satlite dish.

I guess im having trouble understanding how you have the DVR system connected to the TV/Satlite dish.

Do both your satlite dish/DVR System have an output/input coaxel conection?

It would be good if you gave the model number and brand for both your satlite reciver and DVR system.

Try to make a detalied list of how you have each component connected.
