I have been using RITEK dvd-r discs for some time with no problems. I just bought some new ones (checked them using nero cd drive test and they are the same brand) but I have problems when it comes to burning them using Nero 7. If I use clonedvd2 I have no problems. Does anybody know the reason this is happening?

Could be the version of nero your using - if your not using the latest version (7.0.8.2)try it. You can download it from nero product center in smart start or here's a link:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php
You can also post the last Nero log located in: program files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>nerohistory.txt. Just be sure to edit out your serail # - they can begin w/ 1A, 1C, 5C or similar.

Post the whole log - they are separated by something like this:
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======

But here's what a power calibration error means (straight from Nero)
* Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
* Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
* Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
* Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
* Send the recorder in for service.

The no seek complete error also has the same reasons plus a driver conflict.
So you may having another software like Roxio installed which isconflicting with Nero - the whole log will show us this.

Just missing one piece - this and what's below it: Existing drivers: This part will show what drivers are installed - some are known to conflict w/ Nero and may be why Nero fails but Clone doesn't.

Your Nero could use an update - this was the very 1st version of 7 and not the best so could also be a part of the problem. (see my post above on updating to 7.0.8.2).

Your firmware could use an update - the latest is 1.04 - this will help your drive with read/write strategies of media. Here's link:

Well no conflicts there cause there aren't any:) Usually you a least see the windows one.
So update Nero and your firmware and let's us know how that's turn out - good bad or otherwise!

Not a problem!!
I use Clone and Nero (version 6 though) on 2 pc's & no conflicts. Hopefully the Nero update will solve this - then I would reinstall CloneDVD and see what happens. That's a good one to have esp. w/ some of the copy protections that give Nero's Recode a problem even with AnyDVD running.
I'm sure you'll be able to help others members here real soon! We learn something new every day so pass it along!

I have disconnected one of the fans that takes power from the same point as the driver (dvd) and it seems that it's working now. I have to make a couple of run tests to make sure this was the problem.... let you guys know more soon...

Your drive should be on a separate power connection so this may have been another reason Nero is failing.
Fans are important too - Shrink is pretty CPU intensive so make sure you have good cooling or it or your pc may shutdown if starts to overheat.
Keep us updated!

Everything seems to be working fine now... just need to figure out from where to get power for the fan. The weird thing is my DVD was working fine before, with this configuration. Thanks for all the help.
