I have been using DVD shrink for over a year with great success.
I just built a new computer system including new DVD burner. You guessed it DVD shrink no longer works correctly with newer version of Nero packaged with my LiteOn Burner. DVD shrink goes through and does the scan and then when I hit back up DVD shrink just closes down it does not even encode. Another interesting aside. When I do fresh install of Nero...Nero works fine. As soon as I run DVD shrink it messes up Nero. When I start Nero It comes up for about 20 seconds and then just shuts down without me doing anything.

I tried to install my old version of Nero which came with my sony drive and it is hacked so that it only works with a sony drive.

any suggestions? i really would like to stay with dvd shrink, combined with anydvd it works great.

Chances are you updated to nero6 version 6.6.1.4 (the latest version), if so, this version of nero will not autoburn if used with DVDshrink and produce the error you describe.

If you want to use DVDshrink's autoburn with nero function, you'll needed to revert back to version 6.6.0.18.

If you want to keep/use version 6.6.1.4, you'll need to burn with nero manually.

If reverting back to version 6.6.0.18, uninstall nero from your system using the nero general cleantool found here:

Next, install nero6 version 6.6.0.18 packages 1 and 2 found here (re-enter your nero serial#):

Package 1

OR if you like that buggy NEW version you can try this:

Uncheck the burn with nero option in DVDshrink.
When backing up with shrink choose to save target as a "hard disk folder", this will create a VIDEO_TS folder containing the video files. Then choose a location on your HDD for the VIDEO_TS folder to be placed in.

When shrink is done you should have a VIDEO_TS folder containing the video files at the location you chose.

Double click on the NERO smartstart icon and choose nero burning rom from the applications tab/section to run it. Follow the guides for burning the files to disk.

I would recommend rolling back to a previous version,
If not you will have to save as a folder to your hard drive,
then burn manually.

That version of NERO does not allow the auto-burn with dvd shrink,
causing you the TRF error.

If for some reason I am wrong,
Post your Nero error log,( with your serial(s) removed of course.)
But this is normally the issue when updaing Nero with the older dvd shrink.

The problem is that I do not got an error or the opportunity to not burn dvdshrink just shuts down. Its an OEM version of Nero and there is no serial number on the package...can i find it in a file after installed? and i can use the serial number from one version to install another version?

You can use the same serial.
You can get it from your registry,
get your serial and write it down,
Use the Nero clean tool and get the
version that I posted before.

Also DVD shrink ALONE cant derypt newer movies because
of the protections.
I use AnyDVD to decypt my commercial dvd's alternatively
you could use dvd fabdecypter and VObblanker instead.

But Anydvd works in the background with no 'extra' steps.

If in your nero log the error is a 'trf' error it is
because of the version.

But if you are not decrypting the movie that could also
be causing dvd shrink to close.

(you can test this by using an old movie or by trying
to copy one that has ALREADY been copied).
or by running AnyDVd in the backgound.

If you do want to go back to version 6.6.0.18 from 6.6.1.4 all you have to do is install 18 over 4. It will tell you you are installing older version but it will do it. I did without issues and Shrink plays well with Nero again.

Thanks for all the help. I forgot to mention that I was already running AnyDVD. what i ended up doing is downloading the trial version of nero7 which has recode built in which seems to work just like dvdshrink. I have burnt a couple movies no problem. i will probably continue to test this and if everything goes ok i will just purchase nero7....this will eliminate the need for dvdshrink altogether and Nero 7 has some nice features.
