I was just wondering if the fan on the ps2 slim is supposed to ingage after about a half hour of use, or if mine is overheating or something?

Mine has been starting to do that for the past month, but I can't figure out what it is, and it takes longer for the fan to go on at a faster speed. This only happens with PSX games, Gran Turismo 4, and my Sega Rally Championship backup. Could be that something is working overtime.
? I really don't know.

the slim PSTwo has always had heat issues. you can set a small house fan in fromt of it, and turn the PSTwo upright and that will help with the heat.

NEVER IN MY LIFE will I put my PlayStation 2 in a vertical position. The disc is spinning the wrong way, and I have been told that this could cause problems. Maybe a USB fan or something but NO VERTICAL POSITIONING OF THE CONSOLE.

That is just because you have no idea what your talking about.
They are made to stand verticle.
That is why Sony makes a stand for them.

and that way there is less surface touching another surface which will let it stay slighly cooler.

I have had mine over a year now and it has done nothing BUT stand verticle.

they do have external cooling fans as well if you want one.

i have seen them for about $7.99

I have same problem with certain games. You have 30 -40 mins before the game crashes. Any ideas on how to resolve the issue? I tried a cooling fan on it. Which area is it best to face the fan on to.

Steimy, I tried that today(made my own stand so that it doesn't tip over), but it doesn't help a lot. I gain maybe 30 sec. to 2 min. Pretty useless.

The only time my PSTwo ever had a problem was on vacation last summer. My friends house had no AC so it was kinda hot. It didn't crash on us, but after about 20-30 mins we went to switch games and it just refused to load it. But when we put the fan in front of it blowing into the vents it helped a lot.

In my house with AC it never gave me any troubles even with the modchip which adds extra heat. As far as standing it up, that will help with the heat as there is less surface touching something else and getting heated up. But not enough to make a big difference if you live in a house that is warm (no AC). The fan is your only real option to help the heat, and you can make cooler air with something in fromt of the fan to cool the air like an ice tray or something.
But in a house that is warm i would have suggested buying a slighly used, premodded older version because they did not have heat issues.
