I have been using dvdshrink for a couple months now and I have been very happy with it until 2 nights ago. Im not sure if it's a dvd shrink problem but I have tried so many things that Im left thinking it could be. During any stage of the analyzing or copying stages of dvd shrink, my PC has become extremely sluggish(works fine otherwise). My mouse lags and skips to the point it's un-usable. Sounds that usually last a split second drag on for 5 seconds, the compute in general is almost useless. The analyzing process is taking close to 6 minutes on any dvd and the encoding process takes 5 to 6 hours where it usually takes 30-45 minutes. I uninstalled dvd shrink and nero. Re-downloaded both programs.....problem remains. I ran 3 different adware/spyware programs, downloaded 2 new ones and ran those......no success. I ran my system defrag overnight with no improvements.

Any ever have a similar problem or have any other ideas I could try. Thank you for any help you can provide.

If your devices have DMA enabled as suggested by Bigfatboy, then..
Having a small amout of free hard drive space available can also cause this, how much is left?

Goto-->my computer, right click on your primary hard drive and choose properties. Here look for free space in bytes or in GB, how much is left free in giga bytes (GB)? If you have approx 15GB or less, then you need to get rid of any files you don't need and make more room. Any movies you've backed up and made a copy of should be removed from your hard drive, you might also want to try a perform a sypware scan on your PC, spyware can also slow your system down and rob it of it's ability to perform well. After you've gained back as much space as possible defrag the drive.

You can defrag by going to my computer, right click on your primary hard drive (c:?) and choose properties, click on the tools tab and choose defragment now.

For spyware detection and removal, I suggest using SpyBot Search and Destroy, you can get it here:
