Only thing I can see maybe is that for whatever reason ? The Taiyo Yuden Silver shiny's possibly get overheated too much - Like sometimes happens when you put Paper labels on your Dvd's Where as the Other disc you mentioned are'nt doing this this ! perhaps they are somewhat thicker /heavier and are'nt heating up as fast ? Just a possibolity ! Also you are using media that is compatable with your player? Players made in the last couple years will play Pizza if the cheese isn't to thick !LOL! Seriously though if your player is somewhat old playing Homespun dvd backups can sometimes be problematical ! You could try your Taiyo Yuden Shiny Back ups on various players and see what happens ! Alternatively you could Either Buy a newer inexpensive DVD player or Switch to DVD+R media and Booktype it to DVD Rom this will give you as close to complete compatablity as you can get ! assuming of course your burner allows you to Booktype ? Hope you sort it out buddy Good luck & happy burning!

Thanks bigtoxy,,i can't see it overheating because it says error
as soon as you put it,, won't play it at all,,yes we are using
the right media (-), the player rec. is only like two year old Emerson.
funny thing is the same DVD will play in all our other
players no problem and there Emersons too. I don't know mabie it's
just a fluke.

Anybody else have this problem????????

Not at all. Those TYs are some of the best. It's probably just the player not liking the TYs (as hard as that is to fathom).

I second the motion that it's the player and not the disk! TYs are the best and most of my collection is TY! It plays on all the players that I ever tried them on!

That's just it. It might just be incompatible with TY. The Sonys that I have would always play on the player in my room. But they would *occasionally* have issues on the living room player (sometimes it would skip to a random scene). Ironically, that living room player is a Sony.

daman1- As the others have said in particalur case it's probably the Player ! which leaves you with a few options ! Switch media ? Possibly find another Brand that works in that emerson & the other drives as well ! Buy another Inexpensive player ! Also you may want to Give The player a Good cleaning - Open your players disc tray like you would to insert a dvd & spray the insides witha few quick burst of canned Air . you could also in addition to or instead of use a DVD lens cleaner disc pop it in like a dvd and it does it's thing! Also that Particlar Emerson player even if it's the same model # as they others maybe slightly different internally - They may have upgraded that model # after you bought the problem one ? just a thought ! And also it could be that this player that acts up is going bad - DVD players have become the New VCRS = Disposale Technology ! When they get WONKY chuck'Em & go get a new one and you getting newer technology usually at a better price - Hope you get it sorted out ! good luck ! Ciao!

one other thing you may try is lower your burn speed to 4x and see if that helps or try the DVD+R format and booktype them to DVD-ROM

what software are you using to transcode and burn with? try a different program CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD makes everything region free so that may work

Thanks everyone for your respond,Yea may have to upgrade that player
i can't see having two three differnt medias because one player
can't play it..i do burn at 4x only never higher.

i use shrink to do 95% of my burning and always set to region free
i think i'm going to try some plus format and see what happens.

And give it a good cleaning too.:)

daman1- I think you may be on to something there ! Don't think it's a region problem either ! Sounds like what e said earlier ! that one player is getting old & or wonky ! it does happen ! The DVD+R Booktyping Might help if your burner Allows you to do it ! That would give you as close to 100% compatablity as your going to get ! If your Emerson won't play Those it's deffinitely Bad ! Though If your burner does'nt allow booktyping you'd come out cheaper in the long run just replacing your wonky pLayer ! Unless of course you want to add another burner to your system - with more features ! Like higher speed , DL - Burning DVD+R DL & DVD-R DL , Booktyping ability ect. But if your happy with the one you already have then That's cool too Just replace the emerson that is giving you trouble - Newegg .has players onsale occasionaly ! Bought myself 2 Norcent Player awhile back for 23.00 each including shipping ! & they play anything short of a cheese pizza !daman1 My friend good luck with your problem & let us know how it turns out ! happy Burning !

Stupid electronics. Just not made like they used to be. I got some Taiyo's from http://www.mediamegamall.com and I played them in one of the first Sony DVD Players ever made and they worked fine. Same with Verbatim DL discs that I got from the same store. But I also have a newer DVD player that had some issues with the DL. Guess it all just depends on what you use to play it in, burn it in, and the media you use. Gotta have a good combination for all. I bought Nero 7 from the store as well and it cleared up a lot of the burning problems.
