I was decrypting a job after using the guide to
review the basics.
The steps I took were ISO - read then ISO write
and the burn routine started ok and finished.
This fresh TYG02 blank cannot be read in my Sony
retail player. It doesn't even display a message about
"can't read disk". Just a dark panel. I used the Nero
CD Speed test of the disk quality and it doesn't
even recognize it. The disk shows up in one test as data,
but the disk quality test won't even light up the start button.
Where is the guide that is less than 32 pages long?

I take it you used DVDDecrypter to do the read and the write or did you use another program?
Try and D/L DVDinfoPro and see if you can do a CRC test to see if there were any read errors.
Were you trying to rip a DVD-9 to DVD-5. If so did you use a compression program and what was it?

Yes, but I didn't know if I should be naming names. I put the
disk in, went:
mode > iso > read (which it then does) then
mode > iso > write which it appeared to do and then
burn which it appeared to do.

DVDinfoPro is for drives IIRC. I didn't see any use in it.
I use DVD Speed from Nero to check disks-- have had 97's and
95's now that I am using some good Taiyo Yunden media. My
drive is a Benq 1620 dual layer without too many miles on it.

Nope. My next effort will be to use DVDS plain vanilla because
this file _just fits_. Not in the red but the green is most
of the way to the end.
I got the guide for DVDS and theres not many steps to it.
Also one other thing of note:
When making the decrypt I gfot a file called farmingville.100
or some numbered extention rather than an iso. I renamed the
file .iso to see if I could retrieve it. That didn't work.
So something in screwey in the way I'm doing the procedure or
the program.
Lookup of the file was hard too... it was buried down in
temps. I don't really know why there are so many options in
DVDD. If the file set goes to ts_ files it's not possible to group
them all in an iso. When you _do_ group them in an iso, the
project won't burn. I'm pretty confused and reading 32 pages of
manual hasn't helped.

ok lets make this easy, wat is it your trying to burn to dvd? a movie or a personal project? wat burning engine r u using?

It's a prerecorded documentary, standard length (90 mins)
but does have the css/cppm copy protection on it.
There used to be a short guide for DVDD but I think it's
pulled from here for legal reasons and I can't find
the copy I printed out.
When the prog is running and the original is in the drive
I see the program name, the file list on the right panel
and the destination to be c:[progname]/video_ts/

Is the below what you are looking for: I did this from memory as I am at work: Remember that DVDD is not being updated anymore so if you want to rip and write to a DVD-9 you have to use AnyDVD and change some of the setting in DVDD. If this is not what you are looking for let me know
Here is one for a DVD-5 File Mode:
1. Insert Movie
2. When Windows asks if you want to play movie hit cancel
3. Open DVDDecrypter
4. At top is MODE- make sure FILE has a check mark by it
5. At the bottom is a DVD > HD- Click this and the program will decrypt the movie
***************************************
Here is one for DVD-9's( Mode .iso) If you want DVDD to rip and write to the disk
1. From the "Mode" menu, select "ISO" > "Read".
2. Put DVD-9 movie disc in drive.
3. Notice where DVDDecrypter is going to save the file.
4. Click the big "Decrypt" button.
5. After it finishes reading now take the DVD-9 movie disc out of the drive.
6. Go to "Mode" > select "ISO" > "Write".
7. Put a blank double layer disc in your DVD burner.
8. Click the little folder icon - "Browse for source file" - and select the MDS file created for you as part of the steps above.
9. Click the big 'Write' button.

Hey, that sure is simple enough-- assuming the
icons and arrows are all facing the right direction.
I have done these operations in the past, but lately there
is confusion.
After I hit > mode > file and go > decrypt there should be a
directory built with the ts_o files and such in it.
From the previous example: C:\prognane\ts_o etc.
This is _not_ an Iso grouping and that's where the
confusion lies.
So if someone can outline in text what happens from this
point on to get the file grouping _burned_ properly I
might be out of the woods finally. ;-)

Just this morning I was looking at the guide again.
It has a lot of nice screen shots, but the whole procedure
references an ISO routine-- iso > read and iso > write
which is what failed at burn time.
Then there's an amount of what I'd call 'program blending'
which just adds to the confusion: use this prog to do this
element (decrypt) use that element to shrink (shrink) and
use something else to burn (imgburn or something else which
is installed separately.) I don't really know how canned
retail software differs from the stance of making a
point and click copy. If that broke the $20 price point,
I'd prob'ly buy something.

Lets go line by line

DVDD will usually make a directory on the c: Drive in the name of te movie but somtimes it does not so that is why you need to make sure the name it puts it under.
2.From the previous example: C:\prognane\ts_o etc.
This is _not_ an Iso grouping and that's where the

Correct that is a file ( vob's, bup's and ifo's.
You are only doing it in File Mode not in ISO Mode
3.So if someone can outline in text what happens from this
point on to get the file grouping _burned_ properly I
might be out of the woods finally. ;-)
Now in file mode you will need a program like DVD Shrink that will compress the data you want to a DVD-5. Do you know how to use DVDShrink?

In Nero you use Recode to do a movie. If you use Shrink then it will utilize either Nero or DVDDecrypter to burn
Do you need instructions on how to burn using Nero or DVDDecrypter when you use Shrink?

Lon,
I just PM'd you written instructions on how to rip w/ DVDD, Compress w/ Shrink and burn w/ Nero. These are movie only-instructions. Once you get the programs set up it will be alot quicker. I am leaving the office now and will check back after I get home

Thanks for the tips from scuba and carmike. I just did some
printouts and will begin to naviage DVDVD abd DVDS again.
I had/have checked my aspi DMA and those things which can be
checked with Nero tools. Firmware is for Benq 'w' which
is the highest one.
I still want to get and hopefully will get a full printout of
the 32 page DVDD manual. I have no printer so I do some of this
stuff piecemeal.
From other threads here I have gotten on to using good
media such as Taiyo Yunden and Verbatim.
Perhaps one of these shorter guides like car.mike could be made a sticky?

I'm stopping back in here for an update and appreciation.
One of the critical and obscure things in playing
with DVDS/Nero is the location of the fileset.
The tip that is worth repeating here is to make a
folder such as 'rip movies' on the desktop and make
sure that the desktop and the directory are the
target. Nero has a problem opening any file set
not accessible from the folders in _blue_ on the
Add screen.
I followed this advice, was able to close out the
shrink job, return to it later with Nero and
successfully do the burn job.
