yeah, I write at about 4x and I can do in 16 minuntes. I've read other posts like this one and people seem to be around that time. Some just really want to get it done fast, so you'll have some people that say they can do it in 10 minutes or less

The recommended speed to burn at to optimize the end results is 4x for a 8x DVDR. For dual layer though (usually 2.4x) you should burn at 2.4x.

I use DVD+R 90% of the time and I always burn at 4x. Just like ACDC said above, it also takes me about 15-16 minutes.

Dual layer, however, at 2.4x takes me 40 minutes !!!

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

buddha06,
Your rip speed is about right. The average time it takes me to rip is about 8-12 minutes and that depends on the movie

Read speed is "up to" 16x, which means on a single layer rip you will get higher speeds, mine has gone as high as 15x but on a dual layer read your speed will be cut in half so you will only get as high as 8x. So your rip time is correct at about 15 to 20 minutes on a dual layer rip.

4x is recommended for burning, he means ripping speed. I also misread it at first. He was actually talking about the "reading the disc" part. In which case 16X should be fine.
