My cousins computer is not recognizing his blank media. He has never had this problem and has been using these types of dvd for a long time now. Ive tried using others brands and still no luck. He has dvd decrypter for backing up his movies and a we also tried Nero 6 after this problem started, but still "no media present". Do you have any sugestions on what we can do. Again he has been backing up movies for a little over a year now and this problem has just started.

420master,
Is this a new batch of blank DVD's but they are the Name Brand. Could be the Mid code is not being recog. by the burner. Check to see if he needs a firmware update. It also might be that the burner is old and the company did not write any firmware for the newer speeds so the burner has no idea what is there.
Look in Device Manager and see if if there are any yrllow flags present. You might also uninstall the burner ( right click the burner in Device Manager) and then re-boot and let Windows re-install it properly again w/ the correct driver

Thankls for the reply CarMike. We have tried other brands of dvds that have worked befor, and he got about half way through the spool on the ones he has been using now. I checked his device managaer and it says device working properly,"no yellow signs". I also tried uninstalling the dvd burner in the device manager, then restarting the computer and still no luck. Do you have any other suggestions.
thank you in advance for your help.

Tell your cousin to D/L DVDinfo Pro:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

It will probably have adds but do not worry. In the upper left of the program click on Drives and the Name and firmware info is there>

While he is there insert a DVD and then in dvdinfopro go to the top left again and there is media. Give me the Media code/ Manuf ID

This has happened to me many a time, you should just be able to reboot your computer (restart it) then it will recognize them. Let me know if this works? ---zen-->

We have been using -r's. he is using a + & - burner. he has been using -r's for over a year and never had a problem. i just brought some imatons -R and gave me the same message "no media present". I opened up his tower and took out the burner. It hade lots of numbers; serial # ect., but no brand name. Do you think this could be an issue of updating drivers or firmware? I have gone into his device manager and uninstalled device, then rebooted his computer. Still no luck. Im begining to think he should just buy another dvd burner, or maybe atleast try one of mine. Anyhow I really appreciate everyones thoughts on this. I will keep you guys posted if I figure it out, just in case someone else runs across this problem.

Thanks again 420master aka Master Bates
