every time i go and update my AR MAX with the latest codelist the screen freezes, the only way i can update the codelist is if i delete my current codelist, this is very annoying because i have to keep entering the codes i found unofficially each time i delete the codelist, i tried soft reset but pressing L1, L2, R1, R2, start, select, i have also tried using different modems but i still get the same freezing screen when i try to update. anyone found a solution to this?

Couple of problems I've had updating the code:
- Memory card doesn't have enough space (I have now gotten myself a 64mb memory card - but I think the AR codes take up about 3mb or something?)
- Slow internet connection (although if you can update the codes when you delete your old codes, this shouldn't be a problem)

Maybe you got a similar problem?

i use my 8MB memorcy card for the USA updates but the card is only half full, i tried both modems my 10MB and 2MB connection both of them froze when i tried to update. and i don't think i am deleting the codelist again becasue i will loose all my custom codes again. but it seems that is the only way i can update is to delete the codelist and update again.

This may (or may not) be helpful if you're trying to update and it keeps crashing:

Download the newest version of the Max Media Creator from codejunkies.com's download section.

When ya get that installed and such, cut and paste this into your browser so you can get the updater file:

http://uk.codejunkies.com/downloads/US_UmcdCodelist.rar

After ya get THAT one, download the newest code list.

Open the Media Creator and insert the updater file and the code list and burn to a cd under normal compatibility (the site says use Alternative compatibility 1, but that doesn't work. Trust me on this one).

Start your AR max in your ps2 and when it is loaded, go to the media player. After the player is loaded, pop in your newly burned update disk. The player should list the updater in the media list. Play it and follow the prompts to know when to switch the disks out. When ya get all your games selected, press circle and it will ask ya where you want to save. Save as desired and reboot. There ya go. Custom code list. Hope it helps. If ya have any questions, just let me know. Hope this helps.

so is that why it never worked the first time?

I have one of the older ps2's, not the slim line. It could be that you HAVE to use the Alternate compatibility 1 setting for the slims. Try that and see if it works. I just kept screwing with the compatibility settings until it worked for me. Anyways, tell me the type of playstation you're using, the cd-r brand you used, and what series of AR you have and I'll try to get it going for ya.

I contacted action replay about this and they said

Further to your email this the first release of the software is seems that older versions are experiencing problems due to the size of the current codelist been over 3000kb, I understand we are currently working on the codelist removing some older codes so that old versions of the software can still use the update.

i have a slim PS2 SCPH-70003 just as it says in my signature. the media i was using was infiniti CDR 52X speed printables. and AR MAX evo NTSC. i tried it with 'alternate compatibility 1' and it never worked. i had to use Nero as their media creator does not recognize my burner.

instead of them deleting games that some people still may be playing they could give us the option to delete any game that the user has no use for. it was annoying when they deleted the GTA SA codes and i don't think deleting other codes for other games will solve anything. i think they should have the option to select the codes you want before you update you codelist, that would save a lot of space for most people memory cards.
