once you've successfully ripped the dvd files to your hard drive, open DVD Shrink. near the top left corner of the window is an icon which says "open files," just to the right of "open disc." use this button to navigate to your files and select them. allow Shrink to preview the files, then either use the Deep Analysis option and select the button that says "backup" or, should you decided to remove parts (such as extras, subtitles, and other languages to save space for better quality), you'll find "Reauthor" just a bit to the right of "backup," which will allow you to pick and choose what you want (although you will use menu functionality), then select "backup" when done. Shrink will encode, then burn. while encoding and burning, be sure not to multitask and also use good media, such as Verbatim, Tayo Yuden, or Ritek (be careful as lots of fakes are sold). hope this helped.

Here's a good link for the beginner. It has some good interactive guides to show the user through Shrink and DVD Decrypter http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php . If you want some in depth guides, you can go to DVDRDigest and Doom9. The links in the Help on the Shrink toolbar are still good. I think about the only one I've not mentioned from Guides under Help/Help Topics/Guides is MrBass.

When you run into copyright protection these can't handle, you may want to use the DVDFab Decrypter, it's good freeware. However, if you want the best and don't mind spending a few bucks, then AnyDVD is the ticket. http://www.slysoft.com/ There's a 3 week full function trial, so no reason not to give it a road test. There's a trial for the CloneDVD 2 as well. The AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 will remind you of the ease of doing backups with XCopy.
