Using video clips in a Powerpoint presentation

Hi, all. I hope this is the right forum -- it seemed to fit best. I am doing a Powerpoint presentation in a couple of weeks (yes, I know, I should have checked on this earlier!!) in which I will use very short video clips embedded into the Powerpoint document. I have the clips on back-up copies of my DVDs of the TV series that my presentation is about.
OK, that's the set-up. I am having a hard time figuring out how to get the DVD clips INTO Powerpoint. The DVD discs have the usual 2 folders on them, video_ts (with all the video files) and audio_ts (which is always empty). They can play fine on my computer using PowerDVD, and so I can find the exact clips I need, but how do I "cut," say, a 2-minute clip from PowerDVD (or any other program) and have it in such a format that I can insert it into Powerpoint?
FYI, in Powerpoint it looks very easy to add video clips -- you just click on "insert movie" and then the computer lists the movie files in the directory you're in. The problem is that the file extensions of the acceptable movie files DON'T include the files that I have in the video_ts folder. Acceptable file extensions include .asf, .asx, .avi, .mpeg, .mpg, etc., but again, those are not the file types in the video_ts folder.
The only thing I can think of to do is copy my DVD clips to a VHS tape, then use MyDVD software to capture the analog video. But that seems so silly when I already have the clips in digital format!
I have DVD Shrink (last version), DVD Decrypter (last version), Sonic MyDVD, PowerDVD, and RecordNow software on my computer. Can I do what I want to do using these programs? Or is there some other program out there that would work for capturing short DVD clips on my computer from a non-copy-protected DVD?
I hope these questions make sense. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay I will give this a shot, don't know how much help I can be and I am sure there are others who know of different ways to do this. You can get the clips you need by using Shrink. You need to do reauthor mode and then use start and end frames to cut your clip. Save it to your HDD in VTS form and have each clip in a separate folder. Here is a guide that shows start and end frames.

After you do your clip and you hit backup select HDD as your target and make sure the box that states to include VTS extensions is checked on that screen.
Now that you have your clips they need to be converted to another format. I believe Nero can do this if you have it or IMTOO Ripper also will convert Video to Avi. There is a free trial.

Arniebear, I got the trial version of ImTOO DVD ripper and it seemed to work fine (as did the trial version of Mobile CloneDVD). However, when I inserted the .AVI file into my Powerpoint presentation, I can hear the AUDIO but the video doesn't play. (The same thing happened with another trial program, Mobile CloneDVD, that someone else suggested I try.) I thought it might be the Powerpoint presentation, but when I opened the .AVI file in Windows Media Player, it did the same thing -- audio but no video. Do you have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
I looked at the video_ts files in DVD Shrink and they show the video, so the .VOB file seems to be fine. And both ImTOO and Mobile CloneDVD don't seem to see anything wrong with it; they both say it's transferring to DVD successfully -- but it's not! HELP!

P.S. I just tried ImTOO again with .mpg as my target file type/extension instead of .AVI and the exact same thing happened -- audio worked, video didn't.

Thanks, Arniebear! I had tried doing a search of online Powerpoint help but my search terms must not have been good enough as I did not find the file you directed me to, which explains the exact problem I was having.
Actually I finally got ImTOO to work -- but .mpg files only, not .AVI. That will have to work for my presentation as I need to get it ready. I'll investigate this further when I get back.
