I've been trying to back up a particular DVD, and whenever I get about 78% of the way through doing it with DVD Shrink, I get a message that says 'the disk cannot be read, data error - cyclic redundancy check'. What does this mean, and how can I fix it? Or is it a problem with the disk?

What is the name of the movie...backup or original?

Typically a CRC error simply means that the disc cannot be read whether because of scratches, dirt, smudges or bad pressing. Make sure that the disc is clean and free of scratches. Try ripping to HDD first using DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter and then run through DVD Shrink. Other programs may be better at reading a problem disc than DVD Shrink.
