i made a backup of kingdom hearts 2 using dvd decryptor. burned it at 2.4x and used TDK dvd+r 8x. my other backups of games came out fine but kingdom hearts 2 had very long load times. i played the game at gamestop and i know thats not normal load times.

so any idea on how to fix this? switch to dvd-r? i heard playstation 2 is more compatable with dvd-r. btw i got a slim.

Bump the burn speed up to 4x.

How long are we talking exactly? I am having similar characteristics but the longest I've had to wait was about 45 sec. and it always happens when it is about to show a clip about the story or when I'm about to fight a boss. My advice is just be patient, of course that is if your load time isn't too drastic.

how long? well during the tutorial where it shows you how to work the triangle button. it took about 1 minute or maybe more just to load up and for me to be able to start playing. after that another long load. later today im gonna get some DVD-R and burn it at 4x

Yeah I would say that calls for drastic measures. Hope the new burn works out for you. I did a 4x burn with DVD Decryptor using DVD-R Memorex and like I said the longest I've had to wait is like 45 sec. I'm 13 to 14 hours into the game and it's always the same with the loads, gets held up when about to show a new story clip or about to fight a boss. I also read that for both of us it could be due to the media. I'm not too sure as to how good TDK's are but I've read that Memorex suck you know what. But the strange thing is that I am a complete noob and I haven't made 1 single Coaster using Memorex. Bizarre don't you think, LoL. Here is another strange thing, well not too strange, my fatty PS2 v5 reads the games better than my Slim v12. I was using the Slim at first and once in a while when I would load swap magic the screen when it reads Play Station 2 would some times be clear and sometimes be really scrambled and blurred and when I would play a game on the slim I kept hearing the laser trying real hard to read the disc. It was working and all but I felt like it was over exurrting itself. So I gave the fatty a try and to my amazement not once has the screen for the Swap Magic disc been messed up and the laser is almost mute. I am now playing all my backups on the fatty. I am gonna get me som TY's pretty soon to see how much better they really are. Well good luck, hope it works out for you.

i've burned over six copies of kingdom hearts, using Nero, alcohol, and recently dvd decryptor. the iso is not selfmade and i've tried it all kinds of speeds, 2.4x, 4x, 8x (the dvd+r's speed) and 16x. i've tried it with both of my burners external and internal i've only been using the cheap windata dvd+r's and am currently using swap magic 3.6 with my fliptop fatty ps2. each copy runs differently and sometimes needs special loads and doesnt. i experience 1min+ load times and the scenes dont play smoothly. the opening sequence has played once all the way through but still freezez, the stop. and. go. movies all vary on each disc. i dont kno what i'm doing wrong, the loading times are rediculous and the cut-scenes are all choppy. i've been doing this for a while now but i've never run into this problem before, i've never spent so many dvds on a single game (although god of war took a couple tries). anyone have any suggestions????

hey lester... check that thing about DVD-R.
I only use DVD-R but the load times are still around 20-30 secs
dunno if this is due to bad file upload or what... 0.o

sometimes believe it or not, its better to burn it at a faster speed, depending on your burner and disc capacity. I always burn my copies at 8X never experience any kind of load times, the reason is I use to always get slow loading here and there w/ 2.4 and it upset me... so 8X always seems to do the trick :)

So has anyone confirmed this to be a working solution?
Just bought some supposedly "high quality" media according to the stickied guide - some 1-8x maxell DVD-R.

Yet my kingdom hearts 2 backup is on a cheap +r, it plays (sounds like its slowly killing my ps2 though) and the load times are long, yet anything i burn to the -r discs at 1x, 2.4x, and im guessing other speeds dont work!
Ice age 2 showed the copyright screen but thats as far as it got.

Anyone shed any lights?

I can't speak for anyone else but me , personally, I use Memorex DVD-R's and I burn at 4X using DVD Decryptor and I haven't had a problem yet. Although I am looking into getting some TY's just to help out the laser. Yeah my copy of Kingdom Hearts II is on a Memorex DVD-R and I'm 17 hours into the game, no problems. And like I posted up above the longest I've had to wait for certain loads is about 35-45 sec. Well that is all I do so I hope you figure out your problem.

What version of the ps2 do you have?
What do u use to boot your games, swapmagic 3.6 i persume?
And finally, those are Memorex - R right? My ps2 just isnt liking my -R's at all, and seems to only boot from my unbranded +R's

That said, my load times are pretty good once the game gets going, the worrying thing is the noise it makes when reading the disc, the laser just seems louder than usual....
i guess im slowly killing it!

Yeah you might just be killin' it. I have a v5/6 PS2 fatty. I use Swap Magic 3.6 with a slide tool. Dude I used to use the Slim PS2 v12 and the laser could be heard throughout my apartment complex. LoL. But for real I don't know why the PS2 Slim would make so much noise. But upon it making so much noise, is what led to my discovery that the Fatty played backups a whole lot smoother than the slim. Since my discovery I haven't touched the Slim. So I hope this helps you out a little. Oh yeah I read somewhere that the early versions of the PS2 have a hard time reading DVD-R's. I'm not quite sure which versions exactly but you might want to search these forums or maybe, just maybe someone with some more info. will help you out on this here thread. Peace out.

I downloaded mine from torrentspy and it works perfect. Make sure you use the best media. ie TY's or Verbatim. Cheap media will cause long loading times, too.

i can confirm that it waz the media. i went out and bought some of the 2nd rate media (i was using an unknown name brand windata) and burned it at 4x with Nero (because dvd decryptor doesnt support booktype changing for my samsung or my mad dog burner) and made sure nero's booktype setting was DVD-ROM and the game works flawlessly. this one makes burn number 8 for me but it was the first burn where i used a high quality disc. they were those sony dvd -r that were on sale at compusa (100 for 29.99). for those of you jus starting out you better believe that your blank media can make a dramatic difference.

I confirm this as well, its definately the media!
Bought some Sony DVD+R's (pack of 10, 1-8x speed) burned it at 4x with DVD Decrypter and it runs flawlessly!
All my backups run great now, including ones that didnt previously work!

i dunno what the heck happened. i burned a flawless copy of kingdom hearts 2, it would load with swap magic in less than a minute, no long load times, and perfect audio sync. suddenly now my magic swap 3.6 takes longer to get to the boot menu, the game will load 1 of 15 times and when it does, everything skips, fmv sequences stop and go, even getting into the setup menu (pressing start during gameplay) takes at least 20sec and when i change form it freezez for 3min. man what the heck? i'm twenty hours into the game and this happens?

i have a label on the dvd could the adhesive have messed up the dyes on the disc? anyone have any suggestions? flawlessly for 20 hours (well 19.5x hours) and now wont even load most the tyme. could it be swap magic? or is my lazer dead? please help~!

Yup, it's most likely the label. You should never use them. They've been known to cause many problems.

ok, after much testing i've figured out that my lazer iz messed up. my ps2 wouldnt even play the maxel dvd lens cleaner or any DVDs for that matter. so i took matters into my own hands and cleaned the lazer myself and also recalibrated it (lolz, with a freakin cuetip and poking and jabbing at the lazer) and the game and dvds all run fine now. it seems that having a fliptop ps2 is more useful than i thought.

anywayz now when there's a problem theres always the poking an jabbing that will get that puppy runnin again. thanx though. lolz

Nah man, theres something up with this iso.
I burned it at 4x on a Taiyo Yuden and it either wouldnt load, or it had silly load times.
I burnt it again to a Sony DVD and it runs fine.
I gave the Taiyo to a friend to try on his slim, and it either loads fine, or loads with long load times.

Seems to me it randomly on startup has a problem so he just restarts until its on a load without lag.

I burnt it @ 2.4x to Philips DVD+R's and it had terrible loading times like 1minute to load cutscenes. I then burnt it @ 2.4x to ritek media and it was exactly the same. then i burnt at 4x and it runs flawlessly.

And I can confirm - Played Kingdom Hearts II for 10 hours and 4 mins and it is amazing by the way. no problems, no dodgy sound - nothing! The longest loading time was 15 seconds. I will just confirm, Kingdom Hearts II should be burnt at 4X for an amazing burn.
I while back I got 007: From Russia with Love and I burnt at 2.4x - I thought everything worked amazing when it was burnt that way at 2.4x. However the hame loaded but stopped for a minute, started working for 10 secs stopped for a minute. I was real annoyed as I loved all the 007 games so I left it alone - still on my harddrive. Then I lost the original!!! I found the ISO on my PC and burnt at 4x and it worked amazingly!
And I think that this is due to certain movies in the game that are burn sensitive. What I mean by that is that if they're burnt slow the movies get jumpy. Ever watched an AVI at the wrong fps? Its like that. I have always thought that PS2 abd Xbox games are burnt at 4x in the factories so therefore the movie put into Kingdom Hearts II and 007: From Russia with Love are burn sensitive! By the way this could just be my theory but i think it could be.

I just recently backed up kindom hearts 2, and the load times was insane. I use cheap media disks (memorex 16x) but that has never given me a problem. i have only come across 1 game that didnt work(path of neo). My dvd burner's max speed is 4x.(i know, it sucks). i burn all my games @ 2x. everything has worked fine. all the forums i have read up on say burning KH2 @ 4x. everything i have ever burned @ 4x never works for me. possibly because my dvd burner is 4x. Before i go and spend money, does any one know how to correct this? will better media allow me to burn @ 4x and it work? will the hdd be better?
