Has any1 bought media on E-bay before? Heres and ad said :For a 50 Pack of Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8X Recordable Media for $21.00 free shiping. This media is Grade A and unbranded.

? It contains the media id code: TYG02

? The inner hub has an ID: 1122T

? The discs come with a shiny silver-top & purple bottom.

? 100% brand new! and packed in 50 pack factory shrink wrapped, in cake boxes. Then is said at the bottom:
Manufacturer Disclosure: This media is not made directly by Taiyo Yuden, in fact this media is made by a 3rd party manufacturer who has paid royalty rights to Taiyo Yuden to use their media id codes. In order to do this the discs must meet or exceed Taiyo Yuden specifications for reliability, compatibility, and craftsmanship, or we would not be allowed to use their media id code or use the Taiyo Yuden name. We still highly recommend anyone who is uncertain to try a free sample in advance and we thank you for allowing us a chance to earn your business.
Any1 ever bought other brands like RITEK,OPTODISK, PROMEDIA? What do you cool people think?

all my authentic tyg02 have inner code ending in GG

also it says in the description that the media is not made by ty...buy authentic from a reputable dealer.....not immitation

it says you can have a free sample...get it and use cd speed to check for disc quality.....the difference between authentic and immitation can be alarming

Just like I can purchase a PS3 already on Ebay? Or if I buy a spoiler for my car it'll increase the HP at the wheels? lol

Stick to the online stores mentioned here on the site.

@akyllonen - you're psychic, that's the one and the same scammer. he/they get away with it from the large feedback, it's certainly not from the quality of the FAKE discs...

i made sure to search out some silvertek links from last time someone asked -

Ordered the 2 disc sample pack. Will test one on each of my burners and compare to a genuine TYG02 on each. I'll post the Disc Quality Tests on all 4 disc's once I receive them. Oh...and of course eBay feedback will reflect my findings!

Maybe what we need is for all the experts here to buy the sample packs ($1.75 dlvd) then leave mass feedback with our outcome of the burns. Hate seeing perople like this making $$ selling junk FAKE media. I will also be checking to see if this item violates the TOS for paypal. I don't think you can use paypal to receive $$ for counterfeit merch.

There is an auction for 1000 Sony MIJ DVD+R on Ebay item number 8785038640 right now its up to $162.50 thats about 9.50 per 50 discs if shipping calculates to 26.87 if my math is correct. As far as buying media on ebay i would never buy it if it wasnt name brand, most of the time you'd come out cheaper finding media in the sales paper since you wont have to pay shipping costs.

Ebay tys: I wouldn't consider them.Even the outright 3rd party manufacturer gives it away.
Quote:

I'd consider the ritek, but I'd avoid the optodisk and promedia like the plague, LOL

Genuine Ritek- Ridata are pretty good. Genuine taiyo yuden in better. Verbatim is also up there with the tys, even using the same advanced metal azo dye.

I prefer the plus format, for booktyping purposes. The plus format tys run higher than the dash format. So I locate my ty's at nearby stores like staples/bestbuy/kmart/office max/and office depot. Taiyo yuden media is in some of those sony's,you just gotta know how to look for them.

$15 a 50 pk is my top price for verbatim and ty in the regular single layer media. The inkjet printables are higher.

jasper44 posted staple's has sony on sale tomorrow-$14.94 a 50 pk.Here's what to look for:

Plus format of the sony +1x-8x: Look labels over for made in japan. They'll also have a white/octagon spacer on top of spindle. The spacer theory doesn't hold true for the plus 1x-8x speed, but the made in japan does.

Dash format of sony -1x-8x: Same, look for the made in japan labels. Also look for the same white/styraphome octagon spacer.Watch out for the gray/round spacers.Spacer theory works on this dash sony media.

The 16x speed: The ones saying made in japan are coding as sonyD21 in the +16x. They dash 16x may yeild some Ty-g03.Look for the white/octagon spacers.

I have one 50 packspindle of the SONY 16X -R MIJ,Has a white octagonal shaped spacer on top, code out as TYG03. I have burned one in honor of DocTY's return and it performed flawlessly. Burned at 16X for experiment, score 99.4% using DVDinfo.
Will probably burn the rest of them at 8 or 12X, will check the quality though...

http://cgi.ebay.com/300-PACK-TAIYO-YUDEN-DVD-R-8X-12X-GRADE-A-TYG...

according to this listing, he wants $49.99 for shipping. with a 99.2 rating I guess he is living proof of P.T. Barnum's quote, "There is a sucker born every minute". Plus he clearly states a no return, no refund policy. Heck still better off hitting any one of the local sales here in the states for Genuine TY or Verbatim disks.

wow, i see that silvertek is back with this...i still remember that one guy who was promoting the "high quality" of SilverTek's media telling me i know nothing about media...LOL

man, seriously...all that "royalties paid" to TY is bull$hit, you honestly think that these smaller manufacturers in taiwan/hongkong/china/etc. care about being "legit?" that's ridiculous...and they claim to produce media to "taiyo yuden's standards" LOL

i don't have nor have tried any of THESE particular fake TYs, but i DO have some fake TYS that were "made in taiwan" (they were the Linkyo's -supermediastores' house brand- 8x DVD-R with the FAKE TYG02 coding) and they burned fine initially but have deteriorated so quickly i thought they were CMC MAGs :)

anyways, stay away from these FAKE TYs from ebay, it's been said so many times before...i hope the "owner/supporter" of silvertek comes on here again to try to call me out...should be fun~ :)

why thank you buddy, your quality burn on TYG03s far surpasses my own...i can't say i have used THAT MANY of them...a few hundred at best, but perhaps since i got one of the "first batches" of them when they first were available in the U.S., the quality of them have since gone up...i have the unbranded shiny silver kind, not the rebranded Sonys~ :)

i burned MOST of my TYG03s @8x, but they DO hold up pretty well at faster speeds...i just slowed it down a bit after a few of them started skipping @max speed~ :) on my particular batches on TYG03, i got low 90+ quality scores consistently, but like i said, it was probably due to them being so new and they have been improved upon since then...

good luck with ur Sony TYG03s buddy, may you have continued great success with them...authentic TYs (not silvertek's media), it doesn't get much better than that...

docTY~

Cheers :)

Someone should really report him, and those threads would be very good evidence. If eBay fail to ban him, contacting Taiyo Yuden directly should do the trick.

Im not sticking up for silver tec but as I read his description it seems legal. He states the inner code number which is not TY, and states the mid code is TYGO2, which whoever made the disc are using the TY mid code for DVD player acceptance, otherwise the majority of the players/ recorders would not recognize the media and spit it out.He also states it is not made by TY, Im sure he researched the legalities this time around...

Got the "Free samples" of the FAKE TY's from Silver Tek yesterday. Will burn and post results on real vs fake TY02's on both of my burners. I will be reporting the auction as well to eBay Safe Harbor, and will be filing a Fraud report with Paypal as well. Should get an interesting response from Silver Tek as well....will post results soon!

We have office's in Los Angles, New York, Tampa, and Hong Hong, so depending on where your located we can ship from anyone of these starting locations.
Wow! This is a big company...all those offices. Wonder if those are FAKE as well. Not much on spelling as well....maybe they need to hire a few more web designers that can spell....
