I burned a couple of backup movies on Fuji Prodisc F01 and haven't heard very good things about their durability. Should I burn these few Prodiscs I have onto TYs to make sure they last me. Its only been a few months with the prodisc and I haven't had problems yet, but I don't want to find out in a year that I've lost half my dvds.

Vicco hi :)
from my experience, if they are as bad as the prodisc R03's that i have used (which would'nt surprise me) i'd say yes as quick as you can

The new maxell 16x i just picked up from wal-mart code out as Prodisc F02...looked them up on the media guide & that rank as 2nd class media which is pretty good...so i see no problem using them.

If anyone has any question as to how their backups will perform, using newer/questionable media quality, then:

Try reripping one of those backups back to your harddrive-using your normal process that you use for that first backup. If there's a major issue with them, then you'll get a crc error on them. You don't have to go through with the burn.Just abort before the burn phase.

If you succeed getting them to your harddrive, then you are ok for now. Then after that is the longevity factor.

I go a little more extreme: Re-rip backups and burn on the fly. Any issues with that backup, and you'll get a burn Coaster.

This on the fly re-ripping also helps you see how good of equipment you got: Burner/Media/Dvd-rom/programs/etc.It basically comes down to overall quality.

Or you can scan them with dvdinfopro/nero speedtest/kprobe/plextools/etc.

I'm actually buring them on the fly and since they are pretty new and unscratched, i haven't had any problems. I'll generously donate my old copies to a friend.

Bought Some Fuji 8x DVD-R printables @ samsclub Code out as Prodisc F01 ! tried Burning the 1st disc in the stack & got failure right off the bat so went back to quality media - japanese fuji's verbatims , riteks ect ! will probably use them here and there for experiments not for anything I have intentions of having for long term anyways ! Good luck gang & happy Burning ! They only cost me .20 ea. so it was'nt a major loss !

Those prodisc haven't let me down yet...a 50 pack of maxell 16x at wal-mart goes for $25..it beats paying $40 for a 50pack at staples or od for RitekG05..prodisc haven't let me down yet.

Those are some steep prices. $25 a 50 pk, holy moly.

Not a lot of maxell sales have been going on.Usually Office Depot. I get sony and verbatim for $15 a 50 pk.

Staple's have the sony 16x on sale this week for $15 a 50 pk. Decent media. Ty-g03 may be in the dash 1x-16x?

If you get a chance, pick up a spindle of Verbatim -16x at office max or best buy when they go on sale shortly. The +16x perform better at the faster 8x and 12x speed-using my benqs.
