Hi I?m using recode and I know this is an opinion question but at would percent compression do you recommend I use a DL disc, instead of a single one? I generally watch on a hdtv, and laptop. Thanks for your help.

I view my movies on a regular ole 32" TV and have gone as high as 55% on my compression ratio...your tolerance may not be that high on a larger HDTV, so just do some testing with SL discs to see what you can get away with and what amount of compression you will be happy viewing. You can always use the advanced functions with Recode to try and smooth out some of effects of high compression.

I know you didnt ask this but you did ask for advice.

I used to use Recode2 and CloneDVD2 which are transcoders.

A few months ago I started using DVDRebuilder with CCE wich is an encoder. It takes a little bit more time to enocde it but the results are tons better then the other 2.

I havent yet had a problem with quility on my 67 HDTV going from DVD9 to DVD5. Where when I used Recode2 or CloneDVD2 I could see a big quility diffrence.

Even on TV episode DVD's where the compressen uasly is very high comes out great when using DVDRebuilder/CCE.

If your intrested DVDRebuilder has its own section towrds the top of the Fourm list. I will never go back to Recode2 or CloneDVD2.

Theres a little bit more into getting DVDRebuilder/CCE set up the first time but it is actully easy to use once you get the hang of things.

Theres a free version of DVDRebuilder and there are encoders for it that are free. CCE Basic Is around $60 I think. But like I said there are free versions of other encoders you can use.

I have used DVD RB at 50% compression on a single layer with no problem, however if you are using a transcoding program I would not go under 60% and that is with using advanced analysis and slow encoding in Recode.
