is the best media for burning?

There are so many kinds to get but I would rather pay top dollar and have them be able to be read in all 4 of my players! I use a Plextar burner!

The best media out there is as follows:

1.Tayio Yudens (best for single layered burning)
2.Ritek (Also a very good brand for single layred burning)
3.Verbatim(The best out the there for dual layered burning

These are the top three and the best out there.

DO NOT go for Momorex nrand its totally crap and does not burn propperly at all and even if it does it does not last long.

I hope that help and keep me posted...

if you want to hav the media be compatible with everything get +r dvd's and booktype the disc. some drives arent booktypabe so make sure you can booktype before. this causes it to be dvd-video which s compatible with every dvd player. if your drive cant, im pretty sure -r is more compatible but im not 100% sure. In terms of brands, taiyo yuden, verbatim, sony, ritek and other japanese media is very good.
hope that helps:)

I didn't want to hear that--I mean that Verbatim is a good media. I thought for sure that is why the last 3 media won't read in my player. It's a $600 dollar Zenith player. Have burned for years and all works fine. Can't figure out why King Kong and Geisha and another won't read in the Zenith. Oh well!

@dreaming,
What program are you using to do your back-ups?
Also, be SURE your burner's firmware is up to date. I just backed up my Movie King Kong on a Verbatim Single layer using CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD. It plays back Perfectly. Booktype to DVD-ROM if possible. I used Verbatim DVD+R 8X . I also backed it up to a Verbatim Dual Layer DVD+R DL. It played Perfect too. Amazingly, The single layer back up plays as good as the DVD+R DL one.
CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD Are The Best out there!
Slysoft Rocks!

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

What model of plextor do you have?

You can use the plextools utility to set the plus media to Dvd-rom. It'll definitely help you if those backups are going to be played on many different pc drives/game consoles/and stand alone players.

Single layer media: Taiyo yuden, verbatim,and hitachi. Ritek and ricohjpn are also very good.Lots of tys can be had for around $15 for 50 pks if you can find the spindles of +1x-8x that say Made in Japan.Same applies to Maxell +8x- lots of hitachi in their +8x spindles.

Lots of fake tys are out there,newegg selling them the last I heard.So order from reputatable sites like Rima/Supermediastore/Meritline/and Americal.com. That's why I locate the japanese spindles of Sony/Fuji/and Maxell.

Don't even bother with: TDK/HP/Philips/Memosux/and all store brand name media except for the Office Depot media. Ritek in the Office depot +8x and Ricohjpn-r03 in their +16x media.

Dual Layer: Verbatim + DL is the only brand I recommend.It is the best DL media in the world.

My benqs will burn anything you slap in them.The low quality media has a tendency to give picky players fits.

Here's my general guide to the best media:

Sony, Fuji, or Maxell brand media that is Made in Japan
Verbatim brand media that is made in Taiwan or Singapore
Taiyo Yuden media stored in cakeboxes and purchased from Rima or SuperMediaStore

@bunnyrip...
you said to booktype to dvd rom if possible. But you are using CloneDVD and AnyDVD, those programs don't let you booktype to dvd-rom. If I am wrong than I apologize, but as far as I know there is no way to do that with clone and AnyDVD.

Quote:
Booktype to DVD-ROM if possible
Booktyping:

Only on certain DVD-RW drives/plus format/and with capable burn programs like nero6/dvd decrypter- or a separate utility like Light-on/qsuite/or plextools.

Nero6 can booktype certain model #'s of drives like: Benq 1620,but not the 1640.

Dvd decrypter can set the booktype of certain drives like: Lite-on/plextor/Benq/NEC?/Ricoh/Nutech

Booktyping is recommended because of the higher rate of playing your backups on more drives.

I believe all the newest burners have dual format. This helps to find the correct format for your stand alone player/s,game consoles,and pc drives. Backups can be tricky on some of them,and it's usually a compatability issue between dash or plus. By booktyping the plus media,you are bypassing both dash and plus. This sets the backup at dvd-rom-the most universal of all dvd formats. It actually fools dvd drives into recognizing them.

If you have a booktyping capable burner,then you have tri-format burner. Plus/dash/and Dvd-rom. Helps in the capatability war between backup copies and stand alone players. It comes in handy if you get a player that gives you a no disc/dirty disc/wrong region/or wrong format error when you insert one of your backups in it.

If you play your backups in a couple stand alones,probably a no big deal. Playing them in a lot of different drives,then it's a huge asset.

@saugmon

Noticed you had a (?) after the NEC brand in your quote, as in you weren't sure about this brand. If that wasn't what you meant, I apologize. I can only speak for the NEC 3520A, but I booktyped it via flashed firmware (is this the right term?) from the Liggy & Dee site. Couldn't do it any other way, but I wasn't too concerned about screwing it up. If I had, I would replace it with a DL burner.

@halfhere,

No, CloneDvd2/Anydvd do not have booktype settings.

Some of the newer burners automatically change the booktype of +r's to dvdrom. Other you have to use programs to do so.

In my case, I use DvdInfoPro for my LG burner, and either DvdInfoPro or Liteon's booktype utility for my Liteon. Plextor and Benq's have their own utilities.

I'm not sure what is going on with Dvdinfopro download for the free version, as the download on the mainsite didn't work. However, this one does:
