That's one of the greatest sites that I could have imagined. This will save me lots of time from going to to all those store's websites and trying to locate their media sale.I got this link bookmarked.

This will save me loads of time, especially since I am on dial-up!

My hat's off to you dilligaf9. jasper44 has some competition now for those early sales, LOL

I heard someone posted staple's had sony on sale, not-that link says memosux..

saugmon.....Its no competition for Jasper, he still has the sales 411 before anyone, including this site. What is nice about the site it covers stores that do not advertise in the sunday papers...Dont forget it is what is on sale currently, so check the sales date on the far right side..The Sonys are on sale at Staples @14.94, you must have read the sale that ended on 4-1 for memorex..

klinger ole buddy!

I stay away from philips. Lots of cmags and philips MID codes.I accidentally bought some +r 2.4x a long time ago and they turned up as cmags.Same with the HP and TDK's. You can get far better media for the same price.

Usually their on sale price is the same as verbatim/sony/and fuji.

STAPLES has Sony DVD-R 16x (MIT) and +R 8x and 16x (some stores still have some old MIJ stock, but I think that all new shipments are MIT, so check on the label, as they all have the same product number) for $14.95.

Just received 6-50pks of the Staples DVD-R Media that is on sale. I have not bought media in forever so, I have forgotten a lot of what I thought I knew : )

Anyway, the media decodes as SONY16D1 I cannot get a reading on what...if anything I am doing wrong. I seem to recall on one of the tools I use to use that it would identify the burn speed of the media and so on.

I have used identifier, Nero and getting ready to try it on plextools on other computer.

A poster above states these discs are MIT. I am guessing these are branded sony media 16x?

Am I guessing wrong? Something just isnt adding up and since it has been so long since I tried to decode anything, Im missing something OR trying to make things too complicated.

There is another thread (sales 4/2-4/8) which speaks to this issue, but basically if you bought MIJ, they are not necessarily TY's. Much of the Sony MIJ media is TY, but not all of it. Supposedly Sony has its own brand, which codes out SONY16D1. Im not sure what the problem is you are having, but that's the media you got. If you were looking for TY's, look for the spindle label to say Made in Japan, look for an octagonal spacer on top, and after you have purchased the discs and opened them, check the media code and the inner hub number (see DocTY's thread for specifics). One more word: Sony MIJ 16x +R's are NOT TY's 99% of the time (see also DocTY).

appreciate the help...I THOUGHT I had replied to that thread (with my original post here) but, I must have hit the wrong button.

ANYHOO, I DO have the MIT DVD -r that code out as SONY16d1 so, no luck with the TYs. I am not that picky and the main reason I use -r is I burn a lot of discs for the kids in the family and have found pretty much ANY type of -r media is more compatible with their players. I havent bought from a brick in mortar store for many moons, always used Ritek from SMS but, saw the staples ad, had a coupon, bought 300 discs and some other things that were free after rebate and that was that.

I just need to get familar with Sony Media since I have been out of the media loop for so long. It SOUNDS like Sony makes pretty decent stuff so, if these work, they work, if not, they shall go back.

On a side note, wife works right beside a Staples and Im sending her in there this afternoon to look for Sony MIJ -r with the octagonal spacer. The ones that I have DO have the round foam spacer.

Again, thanks for the advice and I apologize now that this post in this thread is pretty much a hijack.

Time to spend a few hours getting to know my new media and whats new in the world of dvds.

Well, so much for that. Both local Staples are loaded up with nothing but MIT Sonys. They had plenty of the +R format as well and from what she told me, and what I have read on this forum, the +R all look to be the MIJ TY. If I was able to use the +R format for all the players that I need to work, Id be in business....then again, if I had a million dollars...I still would want another million.

For what it is worth, Staples now has a decent coupon (20.00 off 150.00 exp 4/14) that can be applied to an order over 150.00 to bring the price per disk down a bit and free shipping.

My local staples also only had the dash 16x. I took the ad over to wal-mart,which is next door.Only 1 spindle of Sony +1x-8x that are taiyo yudens. Everything else, taiwanese.

The taiwanese 1x-8x is pretty decent stuff. The +1x-16x seems to be ok,but don't scan even close to tys.
