They laser burn out already after a month. I got it fix from sony. How long is the new one going to last? Should I go with usb hd? Will it extend my console life? My warranty is going to expires soon. I do not want another burn out to happen again before ps3

Can the the newer v13/v14 laser (PVR-802W) be used to replace old style v12 laser ?

How can you determine you laser number?

What is the difference betwenn the Laser Lens SPU3170G and the PVR-802W?

From my experience, the semiconductor laser has 2 ranges of wavelength, one is invisible (IR) for CD's and one is visible (red) for DVD's. The unit optic lenses get thinner over time becase the heat expand the lenses. As a result, the DVD (red) laser is weaker and dimmer, because the red light emits photons in a less coherent beam.

Do I need a laser fix for my v12?

How come most of my cd version game works when all my dvd games does not?

Will

You answered the question yourself, quote:

"As a result, the DVD (red) laser is weaker and dimmer, because the red light emits photons in a less coherent beam." This would be the DVD lens dying, where the invisible CD lens is perfectly fine.

If I take a guess, I suggest around 7 years, 10 years if you treat it right, this is my second year for my slimline and its still working fully. And mine is a 7000 series, not a 70005. The 70000 laser burns out more faster
