Okay, first of all I want to say I've checked the FAQ's out, and hopefully am not about to ask any questions that will make all of you very irritated!

I have a Slim PS2 with SCPH-70011 as a model number. That means it is a V12 system?

I need advice on which mod to go for...
I've asked around and can't seem to find anyone who will mod a PS2 for me, and I have almost no experience with a soldering gun. Otherwise I'd go straight for a chip and not worry about it. But I can't...

I just want to play some European and Japanese import games, but I'm unsure what is compatible with my system that doesn't require soldering, or hopefully, a warrenty void. Playing backups of games is not at all a priority.

Does SwapMagic work? Would it be better with the Magic Keys or the slide tool? Are there any other chips like the DMS4 E.Z.I Pro, that will work for my version of PS2? Any other recommendations? (I'd also need to make sure I can display PAL games properly).

Also, with the amount of mod sites from which to buy these things, which ones are actually reptuable?

Thanks.

I suggest Swap Magic, you won't void your warrenty, you won't really modify you console, just adding parts, Much cheaper and you can play online simple. And if you buy at ebay you can probally find for less than £10

PS3 60gb Version 1.90

Do you know if SwapMagic 3.8 will work with my model of PS2? Will I have any issues playing a PAL game, that you know of? (Picture not being correctly formatted for my screen?)

And also, are the Magic Keys better than a slide card?

You need to get Magic Keys cause yours is a slimline, the swipe card ONLY works for the Big console (bulky ps2)

Is there such thing as a Swap Magic 3.8 or is that a typo. Swap Magic 3.6 alreaddy works on the slimline and PAL games will not fuzz as you can change the video mode on the disc once you boot it up.

As far as I know there is a Swap Magic 3.8. At the site ihackps2.org they have them for sale.

Have you had any experience with the Magic Keys and Swap Magic? I read about someone who had problems getting the keys to stay in, and had to actually glue them in.

Also, does using this type of product wear down my ps2 in any way, that you know of? (If there's disc swapping, would I have to stop the disc by grabbing it, or is there a button I can press that will stop it? Etc.)

Thanks, as you can tell, I don't know much about this!

I have a slimline and I've been using Magic Switch Pro (which doesn't work for versions about 70003 because they fixed it with a metal rod blocking tool C) and it works fine, you can use Magic Keys 2 to not void the warrenty if you have that rod. Or use Magic Switch Pro V3.

Go to here for more details.

Yeah, Swap Magic will play Japanese Imports and backups. It will also play PAL imports (There's an option to switch the video mode). I actually just had mine arrive in the mail, and have played both of those on my system. I have Swap Magic 3.8 though, and although I can boot both cd-r and dvd-r's, I cannot play backups of PSX games on it. (It says right on the back, PS2 sofware only, not PS1). I have no idea how the Slim Magic switch works though, I use the Magic Keys 2 version. Hope this helps.
