my comp was working fine until i reformatted but now whenever i try to encode an avi or mpeg on to dvd my comp just freezes up it does it on nero and on dvdsanta so i downloaded winavi it lets me convert from avi to mpeg but when i try to convert avi to dvd it still freezes if theres anyone out there that can help please do because its driving me mad and has to be something really simple as my comp was fine until i reformatted it its running on windows xp and 256mb ram + 80gb hard drive so should be fine also downloaded k-lite codecs still is'nt working

when you reformatted the computer did you totally delete the old windows partition? if you didnt that may cause you a few problems.. generally its best to start with a totally blank hard disc and registry

Try using a very good free program called avi2dvd to perform the conversion for you, you can get it here along with a guide;

Use Anydvd and believe

if u are trying to convert from AVI to VOB then use the vso software

the link above only has the trial version but it i easy to use

i have tryed all of these programs still nothing any other suggestions i going crazy not sure about the partition thing though i just placed my recovery disc in and let it go from there it reinstalled all of my windows from scratch i think how do i find out if i did this right or not please help

What model and MFG are your computer? I can probably find an answer for you with that info.

the make of my comp is only a qtech i don't know what mfg stands for so i cannot give you specs on that but i checked the file system and its on ntfs

MFG is an abbreviation for Manufacturer.
Basically I am asking what company made your computer(Qtech) and what the model number is, so I can take a look at their support web site, and give you the link you need.

The support site for Qtech is http://www.quantummicro.com/supportinabox/index.htm
However they do not have much online at all, it looks like you have to call them to get questions answered as they have geared their site to giving only minimal info.
